Guber Race No Going Back, We must end culture of Impunity … The time for change has come – APC Ernest John

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Umana Okon Umana recently stated in Uyo that there would be no going back in his quest to end the suffering the present Governor has caused the people in his eight years of governance. From the widespread poverty which is prevalent in the state to the perceived exclusion of generality of Akwa Ibom People from government, and alleged running of state affairs as Governor Akpabio’s family enterprise, Umana assured that the time for change has come.

Obong Umana stated this while speaking with journalists. Ewet Housing shortly after he addressed his supporters and All Progressives Congress Leaders at his campaign office. “We believe that we must put an end to the culture of impunity that we are witnessing today in Akwa Ibom. We must put an end to poverty; we must put an end to the very unfortunate situation where the people of Akwa Ibom State can no longer be respected by the rest of Nigeria. A situation where one man carries on as if it is his right to appoint who should be the next governor of Akwa Ibom State is not acceptable, so that is why we believe that the People of Akwa Ibom State would give us the necessary support so that we can bring change to bear interms of the programmes, we have for our people in the creation of jobs, creation of wealth, empowerment, industrialization development of agriculture, science and technology. In other words, we will ensure that change will come which will affect all parts of the lives of our people”, he declared. The erstwhile Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State government who recently defected to the opposition APC with thousands of former PDP faithful, said his party is ready to take its message to all the nooks and crannies of the state.

In his words, “This is a message of change, this is a message of hope because we know our people are very despondent. But we thank God that today they have an alternative in the APC because APC will change things and make a difference. So we urge our people to vote for our candidates at all levels, House of Assembly House of Representatives, Senate and of course the governorship and then the presidency because we are looking forward to the APC winning the elections at all levels”.

While assuring that the people will not only speak, but would also be read to defend their votes in this year’s polls appealed to those who have not obtained their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) should speak out now and go on to pick them up. “Our people must take their destiny into their hands and they must be ready to defend their votes. It is not about me. It is about what all of us should do to ensure that our votes count. We want to appeal to our people in all the senatorial districts who have not received this Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) if they need our help, we will be very happy to help them because the voter card is the only weapon they have to bring change to the state” He said.
