Itu Students Worldwide Get New Executive By Akaninyene Oton

The new executive of the National Association of the Itu Students (NAITS) Worldwide has been elected and sworn into office.

Presenting the 22-man executive for swearing-in, the National Electoral chairman of NAITS, Comrade IkankeAbasi Udofia and Secretary, Comrade Ferdenard Etim, said the new executive members emerged after a successful election conducted on May 15, 2015.

According to the Electoral Committee of NAITS, and the Election Result sheet made available to newsmen, the following students emerged as winners, Warrior Etim Effiong, President, from University of Uyo; Udoh UtibeAbasi Saviour, Deputy President, University of Calabar; Ubongmfon Charles, Vice president I, University of Uyo, Effiong Abigail Samuel, Vice president 2, University of Uyo and UtibeAbasi Ndon, Vice president 3, from University of Calabar.

Others are Imeobong Okon Ben, Secretary, Uyo City Polytechnic; Harrison Francis Bassey, Assistant Secretary, University of Uyo; Ediomi Effiong Ekong, Financial Secretary, University of Uyo; Akwainyene Asukwo Udofia, Financial Secretary 2, Maritime Academy, Oron; Salome Mark Okon, Treasurer, College of Education; Alpha Eddian Jonah, Information I, University of Uyo and Effiong Baassey Obiokan, Information 2, Akwa Ibom State University.

Still on the winning team include Emmanuel Effiong, Director of social, Akwa Ibom Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua; Kester Edem Etuk, Director of Welfare, University of Uyo; Comfort Denison, Director of Women Affairs I, Heritage Polytechnic, Eket; UbongAbasi Ime Ekanem, Director of Women Affairs 2, university of Uyo; Anietie Dominic Asuquo, Director of Sports, CRUTECH and John Ifiok Edem, Director of Special Duties, University of Uyo.

Other winners are Kufre Patrick Etim, Auditor-General, Federal University, Bayelsa State; William Felix Solomon, Director of Intelligence, Federal University, Benin; James Okon, Ex-Officio I, University of Uyo and Ekpo Ini-Ibehe Otu, Ex-Officio 2 from Abia State University.

Swearing in the new executive members of NAITS worldwide on Thursday at Itu Local Government Area secretariat, Barr Ene Mkpang urged them to respect the oath of allegiance and oath of office that they have sworn and to endeavour at all times to protect the image and integrity of the association.

In his acceptance speech, the national president, Comrade Warrior Etim Effiong thanked students of Itu studying in tertiary institutions across the country for coming out en masses to vote for candidates of their choice which saw to his emergence.

He promised to protect the image and integrity of National Association of Itu students worldwide and to run an all embracing and open administration that would bring growth and development to the association.

In his valedictory speech, the out-going national president, Comrade Ukeme Asuquo commended Itu Students worldwide for standing by him throughout his tenure, and for supporting the association for peaceful transition, urging the students to extend same support to the incoming administration led by Comrade Warrior Effiong.

Both the outgoing and incoming presidents, Comrades Ukeme Asuquo and Warrior Effiong respectively, commended the Executive chairman of Itu local Government Area, Hon. Michael Etim for his support to students from Itu and his good leadership in the local government area.

The student leaders congratulated the member representing Itu state constituency in the House of Assembly, Prince Idongesit Ituen and the member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal constituency in the House Representatives Dr. Henry Archibong for their overwhelming Victory during the pool, and assured the duo their support by Itu students throughout their tenure.

The chairman of Itu, Hon. Michael Etim commended the students for their peaceful election and charged the newly sworn-in executive to carry every member along in the discharge of their duties.

The council chairman who was represented at the event by his Special Assistant on student matters, Comrade Idorenyin Ekputt cautioned the students to desist from any social vices capable of truncating their education and by extension their futures.

Also speaking, the chairman of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) Akwa Ibom State chapter, Mr Bassey Effiong, advised NAITS executive to see themselves as ambassadors of the local government even as he commended their peaceful election and swearing-in.

Present at the occasion were Prince Joel Mkpong from Diamond Bank, Mr Imo Onofiok from Exxon Mobil, 32 chapter presidents of NAITS, past student leaders, SA to the Governor, students and their families, elders and political class from the area.

The students used the occasion to inform the general public to ignore any unknown student body from Itu as any student found indulging in anti-student activities would be sanctioned.
