The State Civil Service Commission has released the 2017/2018 promotion letters to Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government for transmission to Civil Servants that sailed through the promotion interview conducted by the Commission.
The Chairman of the Commission, Elder Sunny Akpadiaha, while speaking on the development stated that with the release of the backlog of promotions, the stage is now set for the next phase of the exercise. Elder Akpadiaha thanked the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for his magnanimity and for the enabling environment given them to function effectively, assuring that the Commission would continue to carry out its duties creditably in line with its policy thrust.
He expressed delight that the State Civil Service can boast of an efficient and a reliable workforce with capacity and capability to build and implement government policies and programs. The Chairman therefore tasked the affected officers promoted to new ranks to double their efforts in the discharge of their official responsibilities in order to reciprocate the government’s gesture.
Some of the affected workers who spoke with the correspondent expressed happiness for their career progressions saying that their new ranks would motivate them for greater services for the common good of the State. A total of 6,201 Civil servants who were due for new grade levels participated in the last promotion interview, out of which 5,820 sailed through the interview while 378 were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, Staff of the State Civil Service commission has been urged to strive to build and protect the corporate image of the Commission by shunning all forms of sharp practices and other related offenses in the conduct of government business. The Chairman of the Commission, Elder Sunny Akpadiaha while addressing the Staff during a meeting in Uyo recently said the charge became necessary against the backdrop of reports that some unscrupulous elements were going through the back door demanding bribe from unsuspecting members of the public especially job applicants for inclusion in the list of new recruits.
He pointed out that in view of the limited vacancies in the service, it was impossible for the State government to accommodate all those who applied for positions in one fell swoop. Elder Akpadiaha reminded the Staff of the Commission’s policy of zero tolerance for corruption, warning that those caught in such negative acts would be sanctioned accordingly.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Lady Rose Bassey harped on integrity in service. She called on the workers to avoid tendencies that may stain their records and bring the name of the Commission to disrepute. The meeting also had in attendance Directors and Heads of Directorates.
