Nigeria whose name was embraced following the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorate in 1914 by empire builder Sir Frederick Lord Lugard became an independent state in 1960 and a republic in 1963, Nigeria is currently divided into 36 states and Abuja, the federal capital territory. The states are further divided into 774 Local Government Areas. Nigeria is located in West Africa, roughly between latitudes 4oN and 14oN Longitudes 4oE and 15oE. The country’s most southerly point is near Brass in the Niger Delta, which is roughly north of the Equator. The northern boundary is approximately at 14oN Her westerly boundary runs roughly along longitudes 3oE and easterly boundary runs from a point to the south west of the estuary of the cross River to Northwards almost to longitudes 15oE. Nigeria has a total land area of 923,768 square kilometres with over 150 million peoples living within her territory.
Nigeria being a heterogeneous society has about 350 ethnic groups, over 400 different languages and 1000 dialects with major languages such as Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba and Ibibio.
Nigeria is bounded in the west by Republic of Benin, north by republic of Niger and republic of Chad to the north east and republic of Cameroon to the east.
However, little did the founding fathers knows that towards the 100 years of Nigerian existence her territories will be segmented into covert regions with guns running and governed by militia groups such as AREWA PEOPLE’S CONGRESS/ BOKO HARAM in the north, BAKASSI BOYS in the south east, OODUA PEOPLE’S CONGRESS (OPC) in the south west and EGBESU BOY/NIGER DELTA MILITANTS in the south-south and a lot more waiting to zoom out making my beloved country ungovernable with rebels of a thousand cutlasses. These groups have no constitutional backings as such their activities are illegal.
This elicit the fact that when Leaders enrich themselves and pauperize their peoples, when they devalue lives, when the fail to do what is right before God and man, what the nation harvests are violence and blood, with a heavy dose of mutual distrust, suspicion, ethno-religious conflicts etc. we are paying the price for the mismanagement of our country at all strata. Painfully, those who have lost their lives had nothing to do with it. From groups that said they were fighting for economic and political justice like MOSOP, MASSOB, OPC AND MEND, We now have a Boko Haram fighting a totally intriguing and bloody battle garbed in a fight for religious justice, and we all are the worse for it.
It has not gone unnoticed but sympathetic that patriotic Nigerians have explore their prowess, courage, integrity to unite and rehabilitate the nation where Generals laid foundation for gangs both in upper and underworld organized crimes which most of us don’t know.
Sorry that you have not been drilled in warfare and strategies as should be of a Prince. That the country paid mercenaries is not ready to sacrifice for the Nation they called and desired their own in accordance with national pledge, constitution and professional ethics.
Historians and magicians would not be able to unearth the scourge of Boko Haram nor that of Niger Delta Militants as the classic Elite who dined with their royal apparel failed to hunch Mr President on their clandestine class war, though they pretends daft and dump because of the tripod governmental policies operated since independent which they feels is a birth right.
I don’t want to dribble you on the origin and history of the menace since its existence has infiltrated all tier of government and national security agencies.
Boko Haram who have covert baseless agitations with clandestine motivated criminal routine to activate power to the North which I know is a twin headed monster that married guerrilla warfare tactics and terrorism to propagate their evils in a grand style to fit their negotiated interest with strict covert insignia, big wings and sponsors with calculated measures buried them within the range of constitutional law as their egotic nature feels. Oh! What an Error duplicating errors.
Though nobody ponder to ask me, what has been done about the infringements of human right and mass exodus of displaced people by Boko Haram siege?
What compensation is given to victims of this nefarious crime?
Who are Boko Haram? Wait they would soon be here for amnesty while the big wings hide under the corridor of power. Then stop fooling the poor mass because this is a critical mafia war which the security agencies conspired with civil criminals to rob the blood of the poor masses to ritualistic cabal whose high taste for power/wealth smile to bank feeling we live in opium. They are not faceless as always prophase by some people. How and why amnesty for unknown solders whose nefarious act has afflicts Nigeria populace? A million naira question.
Now that two cabals want to test run their ideological intelligence in the war theater, the big question is to whom and of whose interest, Nigeria? MEND should not precipitate religious war in Nigeria by attacking mosques because any religious crisis will lead to far reaching consequences and in the other hand Boko Haram sect should stop play to the gallery as if they are novice in the mafia game of blood diamond because they cannot win the war they are waging against the people and this would riddle on their leaders effort as being counterproductive.
Flashing back to the amnesty granted to ex-militants of Niger delta which failed to meet up the international law procedure for amnesty and the proclaimed ex-militant are not sincere to themselves and their followers according to investigation which suggested that those who carried out the recent attack on police officers were disgruntled former fighters whose leaders allegedly refused to pay their monthly stipend of 65,000 .An urgent security strategies should be put in place to disengage insurgents before May 31st .This activate a fast thinker to easily reach a conclusion that it is lucrative to carry arms and be gainfully empowered by the government than spend a whole lot of years in the university and be armed with certificate without pay.
The proposed amnesty for members of the Islamic militant sect, Boko Haram would not only trigger ethnic militias (INSURGENTS SPRING) but Mr. President should accede to requests for amnesty from MOSOP, MASSOB, OPC, middle belt and other groups with legitimate complaints against the federal government, if tomorrow they pick up arms to advance their causes because the issue of amnesty for people who have not been convicted as done to the Niger delta militant is faulty.
This vividly point out that amnesty programme embark upon by Nigeria government is on the faulty foundation therefore, it is fraud not known to Nigeria law. The government can only put in three things, exercise prerogative of mercy after a person has been convicted or when a person is under trial to put a Nolli prosequi, because you cannot just see somebody and declear him a criminal and give him pardon. It is very wrong; it is a mistake on the part of the government made to Niger delta militant which should not be repeated and thirdly Beyond the call, I would think is for government to urgently convene a sovereign national conference, SNS, which is long and overdue, to determine the future of Nigeria amidst the ethnic nationalities and to discuss our nationality and nationhood questions.
