Aftermath of the March 9, 2019 Uruan State Constituency election, the Better Nigeria Progressive Party (BNPP) has petitioned the Resident Electoral Chairman through its Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command and the EFCC in the State.
In a petition, the party accused the presiding Officer (PO) of prearranging and allowing the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to bring in five party agents against the usual one party agent from each party with plans of rigging the elections.
According to the petitioner, an effort in enquiring why the situation had to be so was blatantly ignored. The party alleged that while election was ongoing, the people and other Independent National Electoral Commission officials accompanied with PDP and APC stakeholders left the venue of the election with all materials to an unknown destination depriving several electorates from exercising their franchise and no result was announced at the end.
Moreso, the party stated that they were shootings and snatching of ballot papers in their different units, which did not give them a chance to choose their leader in the elections thereby making the BNPP suffered a great lose.
The party, which indicated its readiness to challenge the election in Uruan State Constituency to the apex Court said that none of its agents signed on any result collected and also affirmed that it has had in its position voice recordings as well as pictures of vote buying and election materials snatching in different polling units to prove their case.
The attorneys of the candidate, DaySpring, therefore urged the authorities responsible for the conduct of the exercise to redress the situation to ensure peace and tranquility in the society, “in the light of the foregoing facts, we request that you use your good offices to address the grievances of our client in the just concluded election in Uruan State Constituency as our client is ready to challenge the election in Uruan State Constituency to the Apex Court if the grievances are not addressed”.
