In line with the free and compulsory education policy of His Excellency, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, one of the state based tabloids, Community Newsweek Newspapers in collaboration with coordinator of Grassroot Development Team for Good Governance donated school uniforms, learning materials etc to schools and less privilege persons in the state.
The schools who are beneficiaries of this gesture are; Holy Child Primary School, Ikot Ebre in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area and QIC school Nda Nsit, in Nsit Atai Local Government Area all in Akwa Ibom State. The empowerment programme and awards presentation took place last week Friday at NUJ State Council Secretariat in Uyo.
In his address, the publisher Newsweek Newspaper/coordinator ,grassroot development team for good governance Mr. John Elijah said his decision to embark on the project was borne out of inspiration drawn from the word of Albert Pike that “Whatever achievement we have garnered for ourselves dies with us; but that which do unto others remains a legacy and is immortal “.
He noted that Community Newsweek Newspapers in collaboration with Grassroot Development Team for Good Governance has been moved to support His Excellency, the Governor in promoting the free education program. Adding it is their beliefs that before 2019, more schools in the state will receive donation of more school uniforms, books and other learning materials for indigent students.
In his words, ” Today, we will unveil the sets of uniforms that we are donating to two primary schools in the state and that will followed by the formal presentation to the selected beneficiaries for usage in the new academic session. The selected schools are Holy Child Primary School Ikot Ebre in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area and QIC school Nda Nsit in Nsit Atai Local Government Area”.
Mr Elijah commended the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel for his pragmatic leadership in the state in the area of Infrastructure, Health, Agriculture as well as Education. He also commended Governor’s efforts in sustaining the free and compulsory education programs in the state which is uncommon in a time like this where Nigeria is on recession and various states in the country had difficulties in paying salaries. The publisher called on all the well meaning people in the state to join in sowing more seeds of kindness in order to make the immediate society a better place.
While unveiling and presenting the uniforms, the publisher of Newsfront Newspaper, Evangelist Saviour Ekpe lauded Mr John Elijah for embarking on a project like this. He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of whatever they have been given to. Evangelist Ekpe also pledged his support to the coordinator of the Grassroot Development Team for Good Governance.
In his goodwill message, the State Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, Elder Patrick Albert said that it is very interesting to see a publisher of newspaper empowering people in this time of recession.
He recommended Mr Elijah for his passion when it comes to doing things, stressing that this is the kind of men the society want. Added that the society need people who can think for others.
To the beneficiaries, Elder Albert said a light has been provided to illuminate their parts. He encouraged them to believe in the Almighty God and also believe in themselves. While pledging the support of the union to Mr Elijah, the state chairman called on all journalists in the state to go into the business of empowering and donating to the less privilege people in the state. He prayed for God to bless him and continue to give him grace to do more.
