The Head of Akwa Ibom State Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, has charged staff of his office to be exemplary in the discharge of duties, imbibe the spirit of hard work and dedication to reciprocate Governors’ sincere concern for the welfare of workers.
He has also assured that he is committed to building on the solid and stable foundation of his predecessor. The Head of Civil Service gave this charge during his maiden meeting with the staff in the conference room of his office. Elder Effiong Essien reminded the staff to work hard as unto the Lord assuring that God rewards hard work in unexpected hours.
The Head of Civil Service, who described the Public Service as the engine room of government, used the forum to admonish all workers to be more dedicated to duties, maintain service and personal integrity, and be guided by the service extant rules in their dealings to add more value to the service for optimal productivity.
Elder Essien called for co-operation, understanding and support from the staff stressing that his office will always be opened for constructive ideas towards a more vibrant and result-oriented Public Service. He thanked the Governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for giving him the opportunity to serve as the Head of Civil Service and promised to do his utmost to justify the confidence. He prayed for God’s grace, providence, strength and wisdom for the workers to enable them succeed.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the office of the Head of Civil Service, Dr. Mrs. Comfort Archibong, congratulated the Head of Civil Service on his merited appointment as the 6th Head of Civil Service. She expressed the confidence that with Elder Essien’s track record in the service, he will build on the commendable foundation already led by his predecessors. Dr. Mrs. Archibong assured the Head of Civil Service of the Co-operation and support of the staff to enable him succeed. She congratulated Elder Effiong Essien on his appointment and thanked Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for finding Elder Essien fit for the elevated office.
In their separate remarks, the Head of Administration, Ms. Doris Ikpuho, Head, Planning Research and Statistics, Mrs. Victoria Nta. Head, Stores, Pastor Mrs. Patience William, Head, Press Unit, Comrade. Edem Okon, Internal Auditor, Mrs. Aniema Asanga and the Supervisor, Civil Service Creche, Mrs Alice Inemesit Ekong, congratulated the Head of Civil Service on his appointment and assured of the staff resolve to be role models for others to copy and pledged staff’s co-operation and commitment to duties.
The Head of Civil Service later played host to the Chairman and Members of the Public Service Monitoring Team who were in his office to familiarise and brief him of the progress and activities of the committee. The Head of Civil Service commended the commencement of action by the committee, soon after inauguration, adding that the swift action justifies the confidence proposed in them. Elder Essien charged them to introduce new parameters for evaluation of the successes and challenges of the monitoring exercise to make the activities of the committee yield the desired result.
He assured that with the track records of the committee members the mandate of the committee will be achieved. Speaking on behalf of the committee, the Committee Chairman, who is also the permanent Secretary, Bureau of Political/Legislative Affairs and Water Resources, Otuekong Nse Edem, said they were in his Office to congratulate him on his appointment as the Head of Civil Service and to give him an update of their activities. Otuekong Edem assured the Head of Civil Service that the committee was poised to actualize its mandate to help enforce Service ethics and reposition the public service for optimal productivity.
Other members in the Monitoring Team were Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Helen Ante, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economics Development, Labour and Manpower planning, Dr. Otuekong Ukut, Deputy Secretary, Exco Chambers, Mr. Jackson Akpan. Others were the Director Culture, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, who is also the Secretary of the Committee, Mr. John Offiong, the representative of the Nigeria Civil Service Union(NCSU) Comrade Comfort A. Ekwere and the Head of Information Unit, Office of the Head of Civil Service, Comrade, Mr. Edem Okon.
