Ibom Power Company Limited (IPC) has been awarded as Africa’s Most Innovative Quality Power Generation Service Provider of the year 2017 at the African Quality Achievement Awards 2017.
The award which held yesterday at the banquet Hall, Sheraton Hotel & Towers Ikeja Lagos was organized by African Quality Institute in partnership with World Quality Alliance. On the criteria for the award, it was noted the award is in recognition of the feats recorded by Ibom Power Company in the last one year.
Speaking after receiving the award, the Managing Director of Ibom Power Company, Engr. Meyen Etukudo appreciated the organizers for the recognition. He said the award is in addition to other recognition Ibom power has received in the last one year. “Last year, Ibom power plant with 191MW capacity recorded 198 days of uninterrupted power generation. We also had 100% Safety Compliance consistent with the provisions of Federal Ministry of Environment” he stated.
He said “of the 23 power generation companies in Nigeria, only Ibom Power was invited to the 2017 GE Frame 9E Users Conference in Dubai where Ibom Power presented a paper at the conference which was attended by more than 100 key customers in the Middle East and Africa”.
Engr. Etukudo who is also the Special Assistant on Power to Governor Udom Emmanuel said the Governor is committed to steady and quality power supply in Akwa Ibom State. He stated that it is the reason the Governor recently completed and commissioned a 2 x 15MVA substation at 4-lane which has ensured that parts of Uyo are currently enjoying at least 18 hours of steady and quality power supply.
He said the electricity generated by Ibom Power is utilized both in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria through the national grid. He concluded by saying Ibom Power Company currently has a 685MW expansion license and several investors have indicated interest to develop the 500MW Phase 2 of Ibom Power plant.
Ibom Power Board Chairman, Engr. Etido Inyang said the award confirms the quality performance of Ibom Power Company Limited. “At Ibom power we measure our Key Performance Indicators – everything we do at Ibom power is on schedule; when it’s time to do maintenance we do it and everyone is focused towards effective production. This award is a reflection of what we’ve been doing at Ibom power” the Chairman stated. Other power companies who have previously been awarded in this category are Egbin Power PLC, Benin and Edo distribution Companies.
