Though the 2019 gubernatorial race is a far away now bit from every body’s reach, but to politicians it is just at the door step. This is so in the sense that a lot of preparations, ground work and consultations at the appropriate quarters have to be accomplished before the red letter event kicks off.
The ideological essence of the aforementioned activities lies in the conscious effort to select the best material for the general governance of the people.
And indeed, no Nigerian would be unhappy to learn that sanity has been introduced in to the politics of the land. There must be a war not a war of bullets and guns, but a war for the liberation of the people from the bonds of moribund and anachronistic social order. If there is anything the average Akwa Ibomite is looking for, it is that the central focal point of our leaders should be just, fair and democratic governance – a role model for others to emulate. A society that cannot guarantee equal opportunity for all its citizens cannot be said to be democratic. Akwa Ibom State, no doubt, is in dire need of becoming really democratic in 2019. Right now, it is hardly an exaggeration therefore, to opine that the Nigerian polity, nay Akwa Ibom State, in its entirety is systematic ally designed to increase instead of diminishing the misery of the common people.
Akwa Ibom State in 2019 will seriously be looking for a leader who is detribalized, a socio-economic booster, result –oriented and a repairer of desolate places. Of course, one of such leaders is Obong Nsima Ekere. Obong Ekere is a very smart politician who knows his onions. He can bull doze the Rocky Mountains and make it plain and level with all its attendant benefits to the inhabitants. Obong Nsima Ekere is a man, who, when given the opportunity, can bridge the supposedly lacuna of rural – urban dichotomy of his people though the provision of social infrastructure. One needs no ghost to tell one what Obong Nsima Ekere has up his sleeves. He has, under a very short space of time after his appointment as the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) registered a vibrant presence in the hearts of teeming millions of Akwa Ibom people courtesy of his meaningful achievements in the state. For instance, in Uyo, the capital city, all mega projects have been meticulously attended to; pot-holes filled, and so many new access roads have been constructed while old battered ones in different parts of the state have been reconstructed, rehabilitated and revisited under the auspices of the present Nsima Ekere led NDDC. The exhilaration in the hearts of many indigenes of Akwa Ibom is fathomless.
When Century Newsfront chatted with some of the Akwa Ibom residents, who are the direct beneficiary of this gesture, they showed signs of appreciation and happiness for what the Managing Director of the NDDC – Obong Nsima Ekere has done since he assumed office.
In Uyo, Mr. Ignatius Etim, a trader said “God will bless Nsima Ekere for remodeling and filing up all the pot-holes near my residence.” Mrs. Ikwo Tom: “Nsima Ekere should be given a chance to contest for Governorship position in Akwa Ibom in 2019. He is the right type because this our street has never known or seen any government present in terms of road, as a result, our cars were repaired every week but thank God for Nsima Ekere, thank God for NDDC.” Udo Johnson, a student: “Obong Nsima Ekere can rule and give an effective administration in Akwa Ibom if voted for in 2019. For me I will vote for Nsima Ekere.”
In Ini Local Government Area of the state Mr. Thompson Isak Isuho said, “If Nsima Ekere who is a Managing Director of NDDC is able to remember the people of Ini by constructing access roads to link the rural and urban centres, then there is no extent to what he can do if voted as a Governor … He should just come and contest and we all in Ini, will be behind him.” Mrs. Ndifreke Essien, “God will bless Obong Nsima Ekere for putting smiles on our faces. Our roads were abandoned. Our food stuffs wasted due to inaccessible roads for the transportation of our food stuffs to the market. But now he has opened our roads. I will vote him as Governor.” Chief Udo Akpan Uko, a Traditional Ruler in Ibiono Ibom gave accolades to Nsima Ekere. “We need somebody like Nsima Ekere to be our Governor. He knows where the shoe pinches. Thank you for remembering the rural areas.”
Blessing Jonah, a student from Obot Akara “Nsima Ekere is a patriotic leader. See, for instance what he is able to show case at this short period of his administration. NDDC projects have now reached every nook and cranny of the state. What then can he not do if given the opportunity of ruling the state.”
Mrs. UbokUdom Uko a Business Woman from Abak has this to say, “Obong Nsima Ekere is an effective, dynamic and resourceful leader with a strong sense of value and outstanding ethics.”
Mr. Monday Ndaeyo, a politician, “Obong Nsima Ekere, for the mere fact that he has always demonstrated supenor ability to operate successfully in a fast paced public sector, and comparative business has what it takes to govern Akwa Ibom State.
Madam Nyong Udoma: “Nsima Ekere is like a lantern kept on the mountain top, which cannot be hidden. His recent appointment as the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission has manifested his potentialities. A kind-hearted gentleman, a goal-getter. If all Akwa Ibom people are saying the same thing, then Nsima Ekere is the right person for 2019.”
Those are some of the numerous opinions of indigent Akwa Ibom people who believe in a better Akwa Ibom. Akwa Ibom people deserve the best, and nothing but the best. Obong Nsima Ekere, is a round peg in a round hole. He will do more for Akwa Ibom people. The adage that says, “The taste of the pudding is in the eating”, handsomely comes in here. Nsima Ekere has been meritoriously appointed to that exalted position by dint of hardwork. What he has been able to do within this short period of time speaks volume about what he can do for his brothers, sisters and friends in Akwa Ibom State. As a firm believer in the efficient use of resources and quality service delivery, 2019 is seriously beckoning on him with nostalgic feat.
Nsima Ekere, as much as we know him, is unlike some of the seemingly harmless hypnotists who are, always underestimated by both their compatriots and the general public, who find it not too herculean a task to worm their way up the societal ladder, to the top rung of their chosen careers. They enact their cruel missions and often possessed by that sadistic survival instinct that cares little about what others feel. But Obong Ekere, is charismatic and humble even to a fault. Can Akwa Ibom State put all their eggs in one basket? Surely 2019 is fast approaching.
