The people of Obio Etoi community have appreciated the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel over the ongoing construction of a long abandoned road leading from the community to Atan Offot and Aka-Etinan by Idak-Eyop in Uyo Local Government Area.
Speaking on behalf of the people, the Village Head elect of the community, Chief Ezekiel Inyang Ekott who expressed excitement over the gesture by the governor, said that the 6.1km which is handled by Nigturks Civil Technologies Limited (NCT) before now was like a dead trap and as well cut-off the links between the community and it neighboring villages completely.
Addressing some Journalists in his palace over the weekend, Chief Ekott noted that apart from linking his community with other villages, that the newly constructed road when completed will attract and expand development to that part of the community and equally boost the economy of the place.
According to the monarch, the design of the 6.1km road network was well conceived to be impactful. The network links from Aka-Etinan Road by Idakeyop into Atan Offot upto Obio Etoi, near the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
“Another linkage is from Jonathan Boulevard near Mbierebe Junction into the heart of Atan, proceeding across section 11 of Ring Road 2, up to Abak Road, opposite Mechanic Village, with further stretches to the Back Gate of the State Secretariat and IBB Way, Uyo by the Substation of PHCN.
He added that the gesture has ended years of apparent neglect of some communities within the axis in award of road construction by previous administration despite being situated within the hub oh the city.
“We are very grateful to the Governor. We see Governor Udom Emmanuel as being God sent to bless and redeem us from backwardness.”
He appealed to the Governor to extend the construction to the road linking from the village to the federal Medical Centre, which according to him, will enable the people in the community to easily assessed the hospital and as well reduce the stress of the people in that part of the village.
The Village Head equally used the opportunity to draw the government attention to the abandoned retention lane located in the heart of the village, opposite the main gate of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
He explained that since the emergence of this rainy season, the people of the community, especially within the area have been seriously suffered the attack of mosquitos as a result of the retention lane which was left uncovered by Julius Berger Construction firm.
