It is no more news that the government of Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel had given a nod to 250 journalists to benefit from the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Scheme (AKSHIS). Again, that during the last media parley held at Government House last week, the governor stressed the need for both the Press and his administration to partner for the smooth running and development of the state.
These were not only reported but on the inauguration of the current Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) with comrades Amos Etuk as Chairman the government unveiled the takeoff of the programme with one hundred and seventy pen pushers benefiting. The governor at the parley announced official car for the NUJ chairman, which is yet to be delivered.
Against this backdrop therefore, the Century Newsfront Newspapers reiterates the need for both arms of government to cement their relationship in order to ensure a meaningful society where one can proudly declare that he or she belongs to.
We urge the benefactors to be transparent in their dealings with the beneficiaries and the government while carrying out this aspect of humanitarian services to the society. Again, we remind all partners concerned that the war against corruption is still on as this faceless monster which affected the lofty scheme has revealed that the benefactor should play her role timeosly to avoid the regular Nigerian slogan, ‘we are yet to be paid and because of that, we cannot treat you as there is no drugs’. The beneficiaries on their part should conduct themselves according to the terms and conditions of the scheme in order not to cause the Health Management Organization (HMO) or the hospitals which receives from the HMO to render the services.
Financially, we give kudos to the government of Mr. Udom Emmanuel for the gesture and appeal to him to extend the programme to Journalists’ identified spouses and wards as well as ensure that many Journalists are captured. We thumb up for you, your Excellency!!!
