In the present 21st Century, administration of justice in all levels became imperative and should not be left in the hands of the commoners or amateur as this may spell doom to a people.
In their well-thought decision, the people of Ifianyong Obot community in Uruan local government area have made a million decision in appointing a very distinguished, well exposed, credible, highly intellectual and seasoned as far as the administration is concerned, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Michael Offiong (retired), a former DPO as Chairman, Ifianyong Obot Village Council.
The ceremony of enthronement, which was performed by the village head and witnessed by all the three family heads, youth and women leaders, leaders of thought in the community, PDP executive, political office holders, members of the community who trooped out in the numbers to witnessed the epochal and colourful event among them were Chief Edet Bassey Emah, Village Head/Family Head, Nung Akpan; Chief Victor Ekpenyong-Nung Inyang and Asuquo Etim Orok -Ikot obioide.
Performing the ceremony, the Village Head of Ifianyong Obot, Eteidung Edet Bassey Ema who was flanked by the Deputy village Head, Chief Kingsley Atakpo and other family heads said that the leadership of a village as theirs needs an experienced, exposed and discipline person like Chief Michael Offiong. He charged the new chairman to bring his wealth of experiences to bear in the administration of the village council. The Ifiayong Obot village comprises three families viz: Nung Inyang; Nung Akpan and Ikot Obioide.
Chief Edet Ema said that the community is yearning for development and as such, called on the Council Chairman to harness his connection to bring enduring development, “we believe in your capacity and we know that you can use your connections to bring about the development of this village. For many years now, we yearned for development and we are confident that through you, our community would be counted among the comity of villages in this country”.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Michael Offiong expressed his gratitude to God, the village head, Councilors as well as the entire members of the community including men, women and youths for the confidence reposed on him, promised not to disappoint them. Chief Michael Offfiong himself, peace advocate and a Golden Award for Peace recipient from the United Nations charged youths of the community to shun cultism and all criminal tendencies and activities as anyone caught in such act would be made to face the full wrath of the law as he does not and will not condone any act of lawlessness or act inimical to the breach of law and order in the community and that he will lead as a policeman in one hand of ensuring that peace, tranquillity and obedience to the law are maintained and in the other hand as a community leader to ensure that the rights of every Ifianyong Obot people are restored and given accordingly.
Chief Michael Offiong promised that he will do everything within his ability to protect every law-abiding citizen. He added that he will use his office to ensure he connects government presence to the community. He also charged the youths to develop themselves academically and otherwise so as to access any available opportunity.
Chief Offiong called on all sons and daughters from the community both at home and in the Diaspora to join hands with him and the village council for the rebuilding of the community and attract meaningful development to the people of the area.
The newly sworn-in members of Ifiayong Obot Village Executive Council are: Chief Michael D.Offiong, Chairman; Pastor Moses Ndarake Udoh, Secretary; Priest Okon Archiving Akpan, Treasurer; Mr. Noah Edet Udoh, Youth Leader. The Councilors are: Mr. Emmanuel Etim Orok, Asuquo Effiong Akpan, Ime Etim Atakpo, Aniedi Ekong Etim, Bassey Effiong Nyong and John Luke Effiong.
