Young Pharmacists Group –Nigeria (YPG-NG), AKS Chapter, donates drugs to NYSC By Nse-Abasi Odiong

A nongovernmental organization known as Young Pharmacist Group- Nigeria(YPG-NG) Akwa Ibom state Chapter have donated drugs worth over ₦150,000 to the NYSC orientation camp, Ikot Itie Idung, Nsit Atai local government area of Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday 4th February, 2017.

Presenting the drugs, the state co-ordinator of the group, pharmacist Ikemesit Ekong Udo said, the drugs are for treatments of corpers with various ailments in the camp. Drugs donated include: Antimalarials (18 adult doses), Antibiotics, analgestics, Anti-allergies worm expellantas, Antitussives, Peccaries and Creams.

While receiving the drugs, the NYSC co-ordinator in Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Akhanemhe Cyril, thank YPG-NG for the gesture. He described their visit to the NYSC orientation camp as timely, stating that the health facility in the camp was lacking many drugs to carter for the high rate of sickness in the camp. According to him, ‘’the number of corpers who became sick in the camp these days are on the increase”. He promised to make judicious use of the drugs.

During The Visit, the YPG-NG also had an interactive session with the NYSC health care team in the clinic. The Assistant Chief pharmacist in the camp, Miss Mbachu Obiamaka, who spoke on behalf of the NYSC health care team appreciated the visiting young pharmacist for coming to donate drugs to the camp’s clinic. She expressed hope of becoming practicing pharmacist in the nearest future in order to also affect lives. Miss Obiamaka explained that their role as health care team is to help in providing medical care to sick corpers in the camp.

Interacting with the health team, the YPG-NG co-ordinator told them that, ‘’ Young Pharmacist Group-Nigeria is a group of practicing pharmacist in Nigeria who are less than 35 years of age and, or less than five years post graduation.’’ He went further to say, “the group is an interest group of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), who channel their youthful energies to achieving the objectives of the PSN, including; enhancing professional practices of the pharmacist in Nigeria, with integrity and passion for client (patient) care’’.

He charged the corps members to be focus on their work as health care providers in the camp. He also spoke on the need for them to create more awareness on the diseases prevalent in our society, such as breast cancer and other diseases. The visiting YPG-NG had among them, the state chapter P.R.O, Pharmacist Badewo John; State Finance officers, Pharmacist Mary Vitalis; Uyo Senatorial district leader, Pharmacist Ekanem Etim and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District leader, pharmacist Edet James among Others.
