In keeping to electioneering promises and in line with his administration’s policy thrust of equitable wealth creation and distribution, Governor Udom Emmanuel within his Ist100days in office has institutionalised road Infrastructure Culture in Akwa Ibom with massive inauguration of Road Construction Projects across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.
Performing the Flag off ceremonies for the construction of roads across the State, Governor Udom Emmanuel said his administration is poised to provide critical infrastructure for the benefit of the people, as well as to open up areas hitherto in accessible for the Social-economic activities in the State.
Governor Udom assured Akwa Ibom people that all the contracts awarded will be completed according to specification and on record time.
He therefore called on the benefitting Communities and their youth to cooperate with the Government for the smooth execution of the contracts awarded, stating that compensation will be paid only to those properties that are genuine and have approved building plans but not to those properties which are meant to sabotage the effort of the State.
Already, Governor Udom Emmanuel has Flagged off Contracts for the Construction/Remodelling of selected Roads, Strategic round-about/Junctions in Eket Metropolis (Phases I & II),’ Construction of 5KM Mkpak-Okat Road in Onna Local Government Area; Construction of 5KM IKot Usop-Ikot Edeghe-Ikot Ekpuk Road with 30m Bridge in Mkpat Enin, as well as Construction of 3.5Km Ikot Udom Road with 15m Bridge in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
Disclosing the Contract profiles, the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Mr, Ephraim Inyang, said the Consultant of all the Road Construction contracts awarded so far is the Ministry of Works adding that the Ministry is poised to
ensure that all the Contracts are discharged according to specification and time limit.
All the contracts have been given specific period for completion. Consequently 33 months is given for the Completion of Construction/Remodelling of selected Roads, Strategic Round-about/Junctions in Eket Metropolis Phases I & II and the Contract entails include dualization and Channelization of Atabong Road/Idua Round-about, Atabong Liverpool Round-about, Oron Road/Grace Bill Round-about, dualization of Eket/Oron Road to Larkin Smith street, as well as pavement, reconstruction and drainage rehabilitation of Grace Bill Road, Street lighting and landscaping and beautification.
The Commissioner said the completion period for the Construction of 5Km Mkpok-Okat Road in Onna Local Government is 10 months, explaining that the project when completed will open up hitherto in-accessible areas, promote economic activities and Social interaction, as well as control erosion and flooding.
The construction of 5Km Ikot Usop-Ikot Edeghe-Ikot Ekpuk Road with 15m Bridge in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area has 10 months of Completion period, while the 3.5 Km Ikot Udom roads with 15m Bridge in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area is 10 months period, also.
According to the Commissioner the two last projects will enhance Urban Community Renewal/Regeneration and promote economic activities and Social Interactions thereby making villages hitherto in accessible to be accessible.
The Works Commissioner stated that the critical road infrastructure of Udom Emmanuel’s administration is to open up the state preparatory to the industrialization project of the administration,
He therefore urged people to cooperate with the vision of the present government in it development effort while warning against all forms of indiscriminate building for the sake of government’s compensation.
