Kufre Edidem Outlines Blueprints
…Social/Economic Empowerments Top On Agenda
Ahead of the 2019 general elections in Akwa Ibom State, a candidate for the Itu State constituency for the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon KufreAbasi Edidem has outlined his blueprints which in turn will improve the living standard of the people of the area.
In an interaction with journalists in Uyo recently, Hon. Edidem who is a resilient supporter of the PDP and the former Transition Committee Chairman of Itu Local Government told newsmen that the decision to represent his people in the State House of Assembly was borne out of his shear passion to liberate his people from the shackles of poverty and ensures that the people live a life that is meaningful irrespective of the area of Itu they come from, noting that God did not make any mistake in bringing them together.
He outlines some of his programmes and aspirations for the people of the area if elected into the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to include social and economic empowerments. He explained that in every community in Itu, there are economic deposits that could be harnessed for the well being of the people of those areas. He argued that given the opportunity to represent the area, he will ensure that resources available in each community would be developed through cottage industries, “our people will be given greater attention through provision of life touching projects through cottage industries in communities according to their area of specialty in order to create employment opportunities to the masses, especially the youth”.
KufreAbasi Edidem, a graduate from the University of Calabar promised to make peace his watchword, “I must ensure that during my tenure as lawmaker, lasting peace is maintained in Itu. We cannot fight against ourselves, we must learn to live together as brothers, that is why I am sent to the House of Assembly, aside lawmaking and the regular oversight functions, “anyone who occupies a public office must know that he or she is there to protect the interest of the masses as well as giving back to them in good measure”, he explained.
It could be recalled that Hon. Edidem has served as Chairman, Itu Local Government Transition Committee for one year and achieved tremendously and was adjudged as the best during his time. These include the design, construction, furnishing and commissioning of the council pavilion to the people of Itu; purchase of official car to the Paramount Ruler; construction of Edidem Ikot Edem and church roads through World Bank, Federal Government, State Government and Local Government Area counterpart funding project that he inherited from his predecessor. Others were electrification project in Ikot Uso; water projects at different communities; purchased grader and ambulance.
In terms of staff welfare, he ensures that staffers were paid as at when due and also ensured that all outstanding allowances were cleared, “my administration then was known for the prompt payment of salaries to the staff, this is because even though I inherited three years of leave grant from the previous administration, I paid all before I left the office,” he stated.
While calling on the people of Itu to shun violence, politics of hatred and bitterness, Hon Edidem enjoined them to support his candidature for a robust representation in the State House of Assembly and the re-election of His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel come 2019 so as to enable him initiate and complete all his lofty projects to the people of the state.
