2023: A’Ibom Youths Urge Sen Akpabio To Contest For President

By Thomas Thomas

A group of Akwa Ibom youths under the aegis of Nigerians Transformation Movement (NTM) has called on the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, His Excellency Senator Godswill Akpabio to contest for the office of the President of Nigeria in 2023. The youth group also vowed to buy APC nomination form for the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State if he harkens to their call.

The NTM made the call last Saturday in Uyo during their declaration meeting held at Andy Jack Hotel, 9 Aka Road, Uyo. The group said it was highly in support of what millions of youths in other States of the Federation have done so far to convince Senator Akpabio to run for the office of the President in 2023, hence its official declaration and determination to work for him to succeed.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the Coordinator, Victor Bassey said that the decision to call on Senator Akpabio to run for the office of the President in 2023 was informed by the “need of Nigerians for a detribalized man who can maximize the agricultural sector of the economy to scuttle the menace of food insecurity”. Mr. Bassey also said that the group’s call on the Minister to run was also sequel to the fact that he “has the zeal to stamp out insecurity in Nigeria

“We are after a nan that understands the effect of oil spillage in the Niger Delta for efficient reclamation programmes; we need a man that understands the plights of the south, the North, East and West and ensure active political and economic participation; we need a man that understands the plights of Nigerian workers and how to inject adequate policy for their satisfaction “.

The Coordinator went on to state that “having strategically considered these plights typical of Nigeria, we, through a thorough analytical cross sectional perception study concluded within the six geopolitical zones of the country, unanimously declare to ‘COMPEL’ His Excellency Obong Senator Akpabio to contest for the position of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“… We the Nigerians fully represented here want you to become the President because of your landmark achievements as commissioner, as governor, as senator and currently as minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria….

” To cap it all, as the Nehemiah of our time and a man that can integrate the North, the West, the East and the South irrespective of religious and cultural differences, we irrevocably stamp our solidarity with you as a ‘MUST’, having resolved to reject any enticement for the actualization of the Nigerian dream come 2023.”

Mr. Bassey also said that the group, which according to him, is sociopolitical in nature, was formed to chart positive political, economic and social cause for Nigerians, and above all to canvass for votes for Senator Akpabio in 2023 to become the president of Nigeria.

Also speaking, a youth activist and a major contender for the position of APC National Youth Leader in the forthcoming APC National Convention, Engr. Ubong Idemudo said that “a support for Senator Akpabio is a support for transformation of Nigeria”, stressing that Akpabio’s transformation means developing the people.

” While holding sway as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akpabio changed the Akwa Ibom narrative from a state with the highest number of houseboys and girls to that of the highest number of millionaires and rich people. He created infrastructures and also created people to manage and make use of those infrastructures. Therefore, if Senator Akpabio refuses to allow God to use him to transform Nigeria, it will be a sin against God and humanity. Thus, we are here to beg him to accept to become our President in the interest of Nigerians. We are ready to partner with him come 2023 to change the Nigerian story so that this country will be better for all of us”, he said.

Meanwhile, more than three hundred youths were in attendance at the meeting, and all of them took turns to express their desires for Akpabio’s presidency. Mr. Daniel Ime spoke glowingly too in favour of the presidential bid of Senator Akpabio at the meeting.
