A former Chairman, House Committee on Information and former two terms member that represented Ibiono Ibom State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barr. Ime Okon said that he is set for the National Assembly race.
The lawmaker dropped the hint in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital when he played host to a group of media professionals under the aegis of Itu/Ibiono Ibom Media Vanguard. Barr. Okon explained that he present himself for the people of Itu and Ibiono Ibom to choose him for the Green Chambers’ job for effective representation and to contribute his quota for the development of the areas given his legislative experience.
Okon, a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ibiono Ibom local government area identified structural decay, bad roads occasioned by what he described as unrelenting terrain as the bane of development of the two local government areas, expressed the hope that he, given a shot at the National Assembly, will lobby the powers that be both at the Federal and State levels to attract development to the areas under his oversight function, “there is structural decay in Ibiono Ibom and Itu local government areas, maybe this is why the people are agitating that governorship should come to Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency however, in this issue, the governor is the leader of my party so, I go with him where he leads. Because of the unrelenting terrain, the road is terrible; the same is applicable to Itu. It was in consideration of these that I present myself to run for the House of Representatives to see how I can draw governments’ attention, both state and federal to development these local government areas”.
On what he will do differently at the Green Chambers of the National Assembly, the former Deputy Leader of the Assembly explained that he will establish what he refers to as ‘the peoples’ assembly’ where he gathers feelers from the people on what they want, challenges of respective communities. He promised to use his legislative prowess and lobbying mechanism to ensure that anything that goes to other places and people must also come to his federal constituency, “apart from the creation of the peoples’ assembly that will enable me gather feelers from the people, I will make sure that whatever empowerment that happens elsewhere would also happen in Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency”.
