The State Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom, Elder Aniekan Akpan has promised equal playing ground for all aspirants vying for any political office in the state.
Elder Akpan made this commitment when the gubernatorial candidate, Hon Idorenyin Umo paid a consultative visit to the party hierarchy in the state. He maintained that anyone with genuine intention and the fear of God that desires to rule the state will never be denied the opportunity to meet delegates, present his blueprints and whoever is able to convince the delegates will have their support, irrespective of who the person may be.
Elder Aniekan Akpan who has traversed the mucky waters of politics with clean records from being local government council chairman to State House of Assembly member, Commissioner as well as served in the Board of the Akwa Ibom State Government knows the rudiments and practice of politics in the state said that the Peoples Democratic Party will not deny people the opportunity to express themselves in the field of politics, “in the party, we have people with capacity and competence to lead Akwa Ibom and our position is that the party remains open and we will be very free and fair to all aspirants especially those with the fear of God”.
The Chairman advised Hon. Idorenyin Umo to continue with his consultation, meets delegates and those that matter in the field of politics and present his blueprint for them to make an informed decision, “my advice to you is that you meet delegates, explain your programme to them and on the day of primary, the party will give free hands for the delegates to choose the governor who will be able to withstand all odds”.
Earlier in his presentation, the PDP aspirant, Hon. Idorenyin Umo noted that governorship is not a job vacancy but vision and capacity. While appreciating the contributions of past leaders in the state, who contributed their quota to the development of the state added that his mission is to build upon their efforts by using the abundant natural resources to develop the state, “we want to harness all the resources that are abound in the state to create wealth to make our people comfortable. We want to build a God-inspired government that will be transparent, promotes policies that will give the opportunity for businesses to thrive. We will build equitable environment for everybody to have opportunity to excel in their various endeavours”.
The governorship hopeful also harped on the training of manpower in the most areas of need. “we will embark on aggressive training of our people in all areas of the economy with particular concentration on technology, engineering and medicine. We are looking at training not less than 200 Akwa Ibom sons and daughters in these three areas yearly so that at the end of it, we will have enough manpower to develop what we want by ourselves. I have made myself available as an alternative for PDP to choose”.
In agricultural sector, he explained that his government will build an agro-allied industry that will process agricultural produce for storage. In health, he noted that apart from making health accessible to the elderly and children, Hon. Umo maintained that under his leadership, citizens will be able to enjoy primary, secondary and Tertiary health facilities also promised to build general hospitals in all the remaining local government areas that do not have one.
