A former Dean, Students Affairs of the University of Uyo, Prof. Etok Ekanem has described the formation of Itu/Ibiono Ibom Media Vanguard as a welcome development and called for its sustainability.
Prof. Ekanem made the call in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital when the Board of Trustees, Executive and members of the media vanguard paid him a visit. He decried lack of purpose, vision and neutral disposition as the bane of development and cautioned members not to allow political parties to tele-guide them rather should pursue their goals by dealing with people based on who they are not necessarily political parties.
Ekanem, a proud son of Itu local government area, a former member of the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council who served as Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture while commenting on governorship 2023 noted that Itu and Ibiono Ibom local government areas have credible sons and daughters who are eminently qualified to run as governor of the state, maintained that there is need for them to step into the ring, not just showing their popularity but capacity, leadership ability and that such person would be followed and supported.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of Itu/Ibiono Ibom Media Vanguard, Saviour Ekpe, JP who was accompanied by other members of the Board, Executive and members of Itu/Ibiono Ibom Media Vanguard said the purpose of the visit was to inform the Professor on the birth of the group and invite him into the Advisory Board.
The Jerusalem Pilgrim who also is the Editor-in-Chief of Century Newsfront Newspapers explained the IDEA behind the organization to include informing, defending, educating and acting as advocate for the people of the two LGAs. He added that the media vanguard is made up of core journalists and media workers of both private and public media organisations from the two local government areas and assured Professor Ekanem that the group is not tied to the apron of any politician or political party.
