Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien has cautioned pay rollers against late submission of pay roll to his office.
Pastor Andrew-Essien gave the warning Thursday, 26th September, 2019, when he received the executive of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists ( NAWOJ), Akwa Ibom State Chapter who were on a thank you visit to his office.
He blamed the delay in payment of salaries to some Ministries on pay rollers’ failure to submit pay roll of their various Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDA’s) to the Accountant General’s office on time.
The Accountant General stated that as at 26th of September, 2019 when other Ministries had been paid, out of the 502 pay roll expected in his office, only 50 was received and called on the pay rollers to be alive to their assigned duties. He said as a Government committed to making life comfortable to her work force, State Government has created a pull of fund for civil servants in distress to draw from to sort out themselves.
The Accountant General explained that at the State level, Government was not indebted to any pensioner assuring that government was working out modalities to settle other categories of workers who are yet to receive their pensions. He praised the contingent to Kenya for not dragging the name of Nigeria into the mud during their trip for the conference and appreciated them for the visit as well as pledge his continuous support to NAWOJ and journalists in the State.
The founding member of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists and also the Director of Information, Comrade Comfort Umana said they were in the Accountant General’s office to show gratitude to him for supporting them to make the 2019 NAWOJ conference at Kenya. Comrade Umanah said the conference was a yearly gathering of woman journalists across Africa where they can rob minds with their counterparts from other Countries to sharpen their skills in journalism.
The Director said the Akwa Ibom State contingent to Kenya went with publications of achievements of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration to prove that “we have a Governor we can showcase to the world.” She assured Akwa Ibom State Government that NAWOJ will continue to support the present administration’s completion agenda towards making the State a destination point.
The Chairman, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Comrade Uduak Ekong presented a memento to the Accountant General. On the thank you visit was the Director Technical Services in the Ministry of information, Comrade Blessing Urua.
