Accountant General of AKS Charges Accountants on Professionalism

… as SWAN paid him a visit

Members of the Accounting Profession have been advised to uphold high ethical standards in the discharge of their official duties.

            The Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien stated this on Wednesday, 19th June 2019, when he received the Chairperson and other executive members of the Society Of Women Accountants Of Nigeria  ( SWAN) who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Pastor Andrew- Essien noted that Accountancy is a hallowed Profession whose ethics and integrity must never be compromised. The Accountant General reminded members of SWAN and the men folk on the need to be good ambassadors of the Accounting Profession wherever they find themselves.

He expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for approving the Institute Of Chartered Accountants Of Nigeria, (ICAN) Uyo study center, noting that the center has contributed to the increase in the number of professional accountants in the State, adding over 400 accountants enrolled for the professional examination in the center. Pastor Andrew- Essien praised female accountants for living above board and congratulated the new inductees into ICAN. The Accountant General pledged his support to the society Of Women Accountants of Nigeria to enable them actualize their mission.

Earlier in her address, the Chairperson, Society Of Women Accountants Of Nigeria, Mrs. Victoria Ibanga said,  they were in the office of the Accountant General to intimate him of the upcoming inauguration of the Forum scheduled for Friday, 21st, June, 2019 and also seek support  in that direction. Mrs. Ibanga said the Forum became necessary in view of the need for women Accountants to come together to share ideas on how they can contribute their quota towards the growth of the Accounting Profession.

The Chairperson intimated the Accountant General of their Pet project called, “Catch them Young “, where SWAN intends to hold talks with teachers, parents and students in Secondary Schools across the State on why they should go into Accounting Profession. Mrs. Ibanga who invited the Accountant General to the inauguration of the Forum said he has been dominated by SWAN for an award in view of his numerous contributions to the growth of the Profession.
