Elections into the various elective positions in all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja had successfully been conducted and concluded. Winners that emerged received certificates of returns while losers in the other hand take their plight to the tribunals to seek redress.
The Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Nigeria’s Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar lost the election to the incumbent president who contested the election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is now seeking redress in the tribunal.
Similar situation takes place across the nation including Akwa Ibom State, Obong Nsima Ekere, former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State and former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio both of the APC are now within the four walls of tribunals and courts in search of solace.
Come may 29th, 2019, winners at the polls who had no case to answer and the winners at the tribunals and court would be sworn into offices thereby making the conclusion of the 2019 elections which both international and local observers adjudged as peaceful and violent free.
In the light of this, the Century Newsfront Newspaper calls on both winners and the losers of the elections to let the bygone to be bygone since nobody can eat his/her garri and have it back. So the elections had been conducted, won, loosed and concluded and the exercise can hardly reconduct 2019 fresh election.
We opine that what Nigerians should now do is to join hands with the winners in building the states in particular and the nation as a whole if their intentions of seeking for political powers were right. One way of joining hand is to ensure that those lapses, loopholes and grey areas that give politicians opportunities in the electoral bill are blocked so that those offended may not have cause to be annoyed and perpetuate trouble before, during and after elections; give sound advice to those in office as well as participating in and contributing to political activities when called upon. Winners on the other hand, should not see their victories as gotten through ‘the powers of their mights’ but take some that show reasonable interests and commitment into confident by assigning them into places of responsibilities.
If these are done, lots of human and material resources would be saved and the beauty of the exercise as well as the needed peace in the society would be achieved.
