The Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien has been decorated International Patron of National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students, NAAKISS Worldwide.
The award is in recognition of the Accountant General’s support to indigent students of the State in Tertiary Institutions. The President of NAAKISS worldwide, Senior Comrade Aniedi Michael, who led the Executive of the Association on a courtesy visit to the Accountant General in his office, Tuesday, 28th September, 2021, said “Akwa Ibom students are always beneficiaries of your generosity right from your days in Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.
Comrade Michael maintained that Pastor Andrew-Essien, through his scholarship scheme has given hope of a better future to students of the State, who could have dropped out of school due to their inability to settle their fees.
“We are aware of your magnanimity to students, this year, so many students from different institutions within and outside the State have benefited from your scholarship programmes and education support grant through Multiplied Grace Fellowship where you are the Visioneer”.
The NAAKISS President stated that the numerous programmes hosted by Multiplied Grace Fellowship, the prayers, Bible teaching for students, apart from lifting souls to the Lord, have helped in combating cultism and other social vices among students and prayed for sustained grace to do more.
Comrade Michael said the Association has chapters in all tertiary institutions in Nigeria and the Diaspora and is saddled with the responsibility of the planning, organizing and coordinating the general welfare of Akwa Ibom students.
He highlighted the achievements of his administration to include, organization of free Jamb preparatory classes for students seeking admission into tertiary institutions, hosting of security submit to chat the way forward on the security of institutions and the establishment of the NAAKISS vegetable farm. He solicited the Accountant General’s support in the provision of office accommodation to the Association, provision of utility vehicle and support of NAAKISS scholarship to students.
Responding, the Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien expressed gratitude to NAAKISS for the honour done him. Pastor Andrew-Essien said he was happy that his little effort at putting smiles on the faces of Akwa Ibom State students is acknowledged and appreciated by them.
The Accountant General disclosed that over 109 students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria are on his scholarship scheme, while 95 youths are currently undergoing training in various skills and promised to do more.
He advised the students to eschew all vices capable of truncating their future, stressing that, “Integrity is all anyone needs to get to the top”. Pastor Andrew-Essien assured that he will not betray the confidence reposed in him by the Association and pledged his support to the programmes of NAAKISS.
