All is now set for agenda setting workshop on transparency for gas flare/vented volumes, Penalty payment, greenhouse gas emission and action to meet Nigeria’s Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) by The Advocacy for Gas Flare Accountability in Nigeria (AGFAN).

In a release christened, “Electoral Dialogue on Transparency of Gas Flare Reporting and Penalty Payment, Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emission and Increase in LPG Consumption in Nigeria – Setting Agenda for Action” signed by the Programme Partner, Everest Nwankwo and made available to Century Newsfront indicates that the dialogue is slated for Thursday 24th of November 2022 at EEMJM Hotel and Suites, Dominic Etuk, Avenue, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State by 10am.

The release states that “The Electoral Dialogue is part of a series of activities being carried out by a AGFAN Cluster made up of CSOs and Media groups undertaking advocacy to ascertain gas flared volumes and LPG Utilization in Nigeria. The initiative is anchored by Initiative for Community Development (ICD) under the Accountability for Gas Flared and Clean Energy Advocacy (AGFACEA) Project”.

Everest Nwankwo further explained that “The project seeks to improve accountability in the reporting of flared/vented gas volumes and payment of financial penalties associated thereto. The project also seeks a significant increase LPG Utilization to 5,000,000MT by 2023, reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions, and assist Nigeria to meet her Nationally Determined Contributions to UNFCC. The AGFACEA Project is being implemented across Nigeria with funding and technical support from USAID through Palladium”.

According to the organisers those that are eligible to attend the event include invited candidates from all political parties vying for elective positions such as governorship, National and State Houses of Assembly as well as persons currently serving in elective positions in the states of Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States. Others are Paramount Rulers and Local Government Chairmen from oil-producing communities; members of Civil Society, Media professionals, community leaders, Organised labour, Trade Unions, chambers of commerce and industries and cooperative organizations.
