I will prosecute PDP thieves
As PDP suffers membership setback
APC petitions are children’s write-ups – Udom fires back
The people’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has experienced untold hardship and membership setback as key elders in the party have defected en-masse to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Across the 31 local government areas in the state, the former PDP stalwarts who feel marginalized politically are defecting to APC on daily basis. The party in the state in the past two weeks have witnessed unpresendented exodus across the 229 wards to the APC to fraternize with the APC governorship candidate, Obong Umana Okon Umana who have vowed to unseat the PDP government during the re-run election in the state.
As if they were waiting for a whistle, Rt. Hon, Eseme Eyibo; Sen. Aloysius Etok; Ekpe James; Eng. Ignatius Edet and the family member of the sacked Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Aniekan Uko and many others from PDP defected to the APC amidst fanfare.
Addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters during his reception and thanksgiving, Obong Umana Okon Umana vowed to arrest and prosecutes all elected PDP government officials who have stolen the state funds in billions and engaged in wasteful spending lifestyle at the detriment of the people of the state. Obong Umana stated that Akwa Ibom state cannot play opposition and expect to gain from the federal government-led by the All Progressive Congress. Obong Umana stated that the people of Akwa Ibom state were tired of bad governance and a complete sale out of the state to the few autocratic PDP in the state.
Meanwhile, members of G-22 have bulldozed every nook and cranny of the state as their influence has now gone beyond the state to the national level. Speaking with our reporter, a member of the group who pleaded anonymity said the present PDP government in the state is “sitting on constitutionally borrowed three months to syphon the remaining funds from the state treasury”. He maintained that the lifespan of the present administration terminated at the tribunal and therefore does not have the people’s mandate to operate again.
Addressing his supporters recently at his country home in Afaha Offot in Uyo, Sen. John James Akpan Udoedeghe had instructed his supporters to vote APC as the only party that will bring the needed change to the state. He said that his problem with Obong Umana Okon Umana does not affect the interest of the party and warned intruders to state aware from their party affairs as his issue with Umana is strictly party’s.
In a swift reaction, governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel said that all the petitions by APC are children’s write-ups adding that it should not be taken serious. He said this while addressing mammoth crowd of PDP faithful in Eket Senatorial District last weekend, stating that road construction in Akwa Ibom Stauction in Akwa Ibom State cannot be compared to that of the North as a result of the terrain in the South South. Governor Emmanuel wondered how somebody could accuse government for service delivery to his people based on the people’s mandate and promise of his government to his people. He maintained that he has confidence in the judiciary and expressed the hope that the Supreme Court will set aside what he described as the erroneous ruling of the Appeal Court. Udom stressed that if the re-run is called for, PDP will win in the state overwhelmingly based on its good policies and programmes to the people.
