… Commends Gov. Udom, AKISIEC on the Peaceful Conduct

The local government election conducted by the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) has come and gone with stakeholders commending governor Udom for making it a peaceful exercise.
The election, which was conduction on Saturday October 30, 2020 had Nine political parties participated according to AKISIEC while a leading opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) boycotting the election for various reasons.
Commenting on the conduct of the election, a former Speaker and member representing Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko extolled the peaceful disposition of governor Udom noted that his ability to direct and guide the entire populous to eschew violence is what stands the governor out as a peace-loving and people oriented governor.
Also speaking to Century Newsfront, a Director in the Akwa Ibom State civil service and the immediate National Treasurer, Nigerian Institute of Town planners, Prince Effiong Akpan described the local government election as being peaceful and well coordinated in the sense that the hitherto violent election has been conducted without the spilling of anyone’s blood, “we know how local government elections have always been in this state, marred with bloodshed, violence, destruction of lives and property including other violent crimes, so far we have not heard any and I believe, there would not be one, I comment the effort of the governor”. He particularly commended the organizational ability of the election umpire, the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission for ensuring a smooth election; he made a case for job opportunities to be created to engage the youths so as to stem the tide of violence in the country.
While eulogizing the effort of the governor, the chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Nsit Ubium local government area, Arc. Iniobong Aloysius Orok while expressing his personal view on the conduct of the election in the state said that local government elections in the state have not been conducted this good. He explained that the peaceful nature of governor Udom that created an ambiance for the smooth running of the election, “the governor has always talked about a violent free election and today, everybody has seen it in reality, has the state has had an election devoid of violence. I also specifically commend the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission for their commitment to a smooth election in the state.
