AKHA members pass Vote of Confidence on Speaker

Members of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly have passed a vote in which they formally expressed confidence in the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke and other principal officers of the assembly.

In a unanimous resolution passed by the House, Tuesday at plenary, the lawmakers said they have explicit confidence and trust in the ability of the Speaker to pilot the affairs of the House, and pledged their staunch loyalty and cooperation with the current leadership of the House.

The position of the House is sequel to information brought before the assembly by the member representing Itu State Constituency, Hon Idongesit Ituen. The Itu representative who doubles as the House’ Works Committee Chairman, drew the attention of his colleagues to certain media reports and public discourse with regards to the leadership status of the House. He argued that it became imperative for the lawmakers to make their stand known in order to put records straight in view of seeming public misconceptions.

Debating on the information, Rt. Hon. Ime Okon (Ibiono-Ibom), Hon. Mark Esset, (Nist Atai), Rt. Hon. Gabriel Toby (Ika/Etim Ekpo), Usoro Akpan Usoh (Esit Eket/Ibeno), Hon. Hon. Luke from office. The assembly members urged the Speaker to discountenance such rumour, maintaining that the selection process of Speaker and other principal officers in any legislature is always done by members of the legislature and not outsiders.
The House advised the press against spreading news of alleged plot to replace the Speaker maintaining that the assembly remains one united family under Onofiok Luke’s watch.

Appreciating their colleagues for the confidence, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Felicia Bassey, and House Leader, Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian thanked the legislators for demonstrating their loyalty and explicit confidence in them, and promised not to disappoint them.

The motion was moved by Itu representative, Hon. Idongesit Ituen and seconded by Ikot Abasi lawmaker, Hon. Uduak Ududo.
