The Speaker of Akwa lbom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey today bade farEwell to his Press Secretary, Late Comrade Emmanuel Effiong who passed on at the age of 64.
The funeral service held at Holy Trinity College, Mbiakong, Uruan Local Government Area, was conducted by The Peculiar Household Chapel Int’l.
In his condolence message, the Speaker described the death of the deceased as a great loss to him and the entire family, adding that he was his dedicated Press Secretary, a revered community leader, a seasoned Journalist and a practical Christian whose contributions to humanity created a positive impact in the community and the State at large.
“Though nothing in life can truly prepare us for the death of a loved one, the demise of my dearest Cousin and Press Secretary, Late Comrade Emmanuel Effiong, is a big loss to me and the entire family.
“We are mourning because we had seen the best of him as a seasoned Journalist, a revered member of the Akwa Ibom State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), publisher of Update Newspaper and my dedicated Press Secretary,” he mourned. He prayed God to give members of the family, the community and the state at large, the fortitude to bear the loss.
Until his death, Comrade Emmanuel Okon Effiong was the Press Secretary to the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and a Publisher/ Editor-in-Chief of the Update Newspaper.
He also served in serveral capacities in Newswatch Communications Limited, Ikeja, Lagos State from 1987-1994 chief among whom were Assistant Advert Manager, Special Projects Manager and Advert Manager.
Emmanuel founded his media consultancy organization, PR Concepts Limited in 2001 and worked for several media agencies as a Consultant. Many dignitaries from prestigious institutions who graced the funeral service were Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Lawmakers, BRACED Union and a cross section of members of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom Council, Commissioners and others from government sector.
