AKHA Summons Works Commissioner

The Honourable Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-eyen has called on members of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Judiciary, Justices, Human Rights and Public Petitions to use their good offices to enlighten people of their respective State Constituencies that lands belong to the Government.

Mr. Ephraim Inyang made the call when answering questions from the Committee members at the House of Assembly in response to the petition brought against Ministry of Works for non-payment of compensation on some properties affected by the alignment of Afaha Obong – Utu Etim Ekpo – Iwukem with spur to Urua Inyang road and Ikot Ekpene – Uyo road construction.

The Works Commissioner who said that Governor Udom Emmanuel is genuinely committed to the development of Akwa Ibom State, explained that all the compensation payment are on structures and properties fallen within alignment of the road construction not for the land.

He noted that all the properties earlier valued and marked for demolition along Afaha Obong-Urua Inyang and Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road projects but were later considered not affected due to the adjustment of the road construction are not paid for, because they are no longer within the alignment and such buildings are not being demolished.

Concerning issues bordering on the non-accessibility to some properties due to the alignment of the road Construction especially some filing Stations along Uyo Ekpene road, the works Commissioner said Ministry must make sure that the company creates access road for them to do their normal business.

Mr. Inyang-eyen who handed the written report of the Compensation payment to the House Committee on Judiciary Justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions assured all those whose properties are affected by the new alignment due to adjustment made, of their full payment of compensation within the next Phase of the exercise.

The Chairman of the Committee on Judiciary, Justice Human Rights and Public Petitions, Hon (Engr.) Otobong Ndem said Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is irrevocably committed in the State to protecting the interest of every Akwa Ibom child and residents in the State.

Hon. Otobong Ndem who is AKHA member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency said based on the complaints bordering on issues of compensation to the House, the Honourable Commissioner for Works was invited to throw more lights on the matters

The Committee Chairman who expressed satisfaction over the explanation given to the House Committee by Mr. Ephraim Inyang on the issue, urged the Commissioner for Works to look into those genuine cases with a view of effecting payment of compensation to them, as well as creating access roads for the people, for the promotion of economic activities and social interactions among the people
