AKHA to unfold agenda for second legislative year

As the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly marks the end of its first legislative year on Wednesday, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke has announced that an agenda for the second legislative year of the sixth assembly will be made public during the week.

He made the disclosure, Monday, while delivering his remarks at a special solemn assembly held at the House chapel situated within the premises of the assembly complex to mark the first anniversary of the sixth assembly. The legislative calendar will serve as the guiding template to aid the House in its legislative business. ‘God has kept us together as a family. On Wednesday when we will be having a special sitting to mark the end of the first legislative year, we will fashion out a legislative agenda for the second legislative year’.

Describing the first legislative year as eventful, Rt. Hon. Luke commended members of the House for the confidence reposed in his leadership. He also thanked parliamentary staff and supporting staff of the lawmakers for the support they gave to the assembly during the period under review. He attributed the harmonious working relationship currently enjoyed among the legislators which has translated to a peaceful House of Assembly to God. The Speaker noted that prayers offered at the chapel in the past one year were not in vain and declared that the sixth assembly under his leadership will continue to exalt God in its affairs.

Earlier, the guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Godwin Amaowoh, who preached on the theme “Go in this thy might” drawn from the book of Judges 6: 1-16, charged the lawmakers to always seek the face of God in their daily dealings. He assured that God is ever ready, willing and available to anyone who diligently seeks him. “When we cry unto God, He will hear us and our condition will change. Anything that is not righteous don’t do it”.

Rev. Amaowoh who is the General Council Secretary of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, congratulated the speaker and members of the House for a successful one year of robust legislation and prayed for greater achievements by the lawmakers in the second legislative year.

The Solemn assembly which was attended by members of the House, staff of the assembly, aides of lawmakers and friends of the assembly, featured praise and worship, choir rendition, intercessory prayers and congregational hymn led by the speaker. Meanwhile, a special sitting to mark one year of the sixth assembly holds Wednesday at the assembly chamber.
