The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Lands and Housing has commended the level of progress at the Tenth Anniversary Hotel, Udoudoma Avenue, being completed to accommodate government ministries and offices still occupying rented residential apartments.

The commendation was given after the committee led by its chairman, the member representing Ini State Constituency and Chief Whip of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Ekpenyong, inspected and assessed the level of work at the site.

Hon. Ekpenyong commended the hard work and tenacity of the Commissioner for  Housing and Urban Renewal, Prince Enobong Uwah as well as the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr.(Mrs.) Valerie Obot noting that the pace and quality of work at the site as a reflection of their commitment to excellence.

The committee chairman stressed  that when completed, the former 10th anniversary hotel building will have become an extension of the state secretariat and would significantly ease the accommodation stress of several government ministries and parastatals with inadequate accommodation while describing the choice of Peacock paint and other locally produced materials as a demonstration that the revitalization of ailing industries by the  Governor  Udom Emmanuel administration was already yielding visible quality results.

 The Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal, Prince Enobong Uwah, who showed the committee members around the facility in company of the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, said the refurbishing and redesign of the structure which started 16th September, 2015, was already 70% completed.

Prince Uwah said the structure which was originally designed to accommodate 230 hotel rooms on total completion would accommodate at least 400 government offices, conference halls, chamber for State Council of Chiefs, Restaurant and Staff Clinic.

While attributing the pace and quality of the work to the direct supervision of the very competent housing professionals in his ministry, Prince Uwah expressed the hope that the 4months deadline which will elapse 15th January, 2016 given them by the Governor would be met.

The Commissioner also said that on completion, the structure would have the capacity to accommodate 3 major government ministries and 4-5 agencies.
