AKSG Invest More On Education

Akwa Ibom State government has increased monetary allocation to educational sector in the 2016 budget to chart a new course for higher productivity among the students. The State Commissioner for Finance, Akan Okon who made this known in Itu recently during the annual Inter-House Sport competition of his alma mater, Itam Secondary school, said to to raise sustainable future generations, government is investing heavily on good and qualitative education for its citizenry.
Okon who opined that a non-conducive environment impedes assimilation of knowledge added that as such  government would intervene massively on infrastructural facilities in schools by improving existing ones and providing same where non existed,for good teaching and learning in order to equip our children with requisite skills and technical know-how needed in the 21st century.
Describing education as a powerful agent of transformation and an enduring legacy any society could bequeath to its people, the Finance Commissioner assured that despite paucity of resources ,government would make concrete effort to sustain the on- going free and compulsory education policy in the State. He enjoined students of the school to take advantage of the opportunity open to them to develop and build their future by taking their studies seriously and avoiding negative tendencies that may jeopardize their academic pursuit.
Mr. Okon who expressed delight to be a product of  Itam Secondary school which he said is well known for good morals and high educational standards, commended the management of the institute for sustaining the tempo, and urged them to keep the flag flying. The Commissioner assured the school of State government’s intervention in rehabilitation of structures, and also pledged to equip the computer unit with ICT facilities.
