AKSG Issues Cheques To 2016 Retired Public Servants

Releases Over Eight Hundred And Seventy Million Naira To Beneficiaries

Akwa Ibom State Government yesterday Monday 13th, September 2021, presented cheques to civil servants who retired from the State Civil Service in 2016.

The retirees, two hundred and fifty five in number in a brief ceremony at the ICT Resource Center of the Accountant General’s office are those who were scheduled for payment in April 2016.

The Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien while briefing journalists shortly after the event in his office said the Governor approved the release of eight hundred and seventy five million naira for the payment of this batch of gratuity.

Pastor Andrew-Essien advised other retirees and their next of kin who were unable to tidy up their documents prior to yesterday’s payment to do so as soon as possible, in order to benefit from the entitlement.

The Accountant General noted that the gesture was a demonstration of the commitment of the present administration to the well-being of her employees both serving and retired. He assured retirees who are yet to be paid to exercise patience as the payment is done in batches due to paucity of funds.

Reacting to the development, some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emanuel for keeping to his promise of ensuring that the welfare of workers is given the priority it deserves and also rekindling the hope of the retirees
