The State Governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, has been applauded for bringing back on stream the only state owned financial institutions, Akwa savings and loans Limited, by allotting funds for the Re-capitalization of the Akwa Savings and Loans limited.
The Head of Akwa Ibom State Civil Service, Elder Essien, gave this kudos when the management of Akwa Savings and Loans limited, led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ebong Bassey, visited him in his office in Uyo, recently. The Head of Civil Service, who was flanked by his Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mrs. Comfort Archibong, said that the coming back on stream of Akwa Savings, aside from guaranteeing and opening job opportunities, the governor has opened another source of mortgage and credit facility for investors including Akwa Ibom Workers.
Elder Essien commended the new Management for engaging new financial strategies adding that the successes recorded will open new doors of patronage to the firm. He congratulated the Management for giving the Akwa Savings a new corporate image by successfully relocating the Head Office to the corporate Headquarters.
On the proposed Housing Scheme which has public servants as potential beneficiaries, the Head of Civil Service assured that with affordable prices, his office was ready to partner the bank to enable the workers take advantage of the scheme. He thanked the management team for the Housing Scheme for workers, which are in line with Government policy thrust of providing affordable houses for his workforce.
Elder Essien expressed his appreciation for the solidarity visit and their best wishes on his appointment as the 6th Head of Civil Service. He assured them of workers patronage. He called on them not to relent in working towards ensuring that Akwa Ibom workers benefit from their investment in the Federal Mortgage Institution.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mrs. Comfort Archibong, thanked the Management for identifying with the Head of Civil Service on his appointment and for complementing government’s effort at providing modern and affordable houses for the Akwa Ibom workforce. She lauded the new management for their attained successes adding that with the commencement of banking services at the new cooperate Headquarters, at Abak Road, the proximity to the state Secretariat will encourage more Public Servants to do business with the bank.
Speaking earlier, on behalf of the bank, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Akwa Savings and Loans limited, Mr. Ebong Bassey, informed the Head of Civil Service that they were in his office to congratulate him on his elevation to the Civil Service top job and to brief him on the progress and challenges of the bank. He informed him that following the constitution of the new management and recapitalization of the bank in 2016, its financial base has been strengthened and new products introduced into the market. He notified the Head of Civil Service of the Affordable Housing Scheme of the bank were 500 units Houses with basic facilities would be built next year. The company MD/CEO, Mr. Ebong Bassey, assured that greater number of the houses would be allotted the Public Servants at affordable rate.
Mr. Bassey solicited greater partnership from the Head of Civil Service and workers to bank with Akwa Savings. He also used the forum to extend his appreciation to Governor Udom Emmanuel for taking interest in building strong financial base in the state and called on the people to take advantage of the products and opportunities offered by the bank. He assured that the new management will continue to work hard to justify government’s huge investment in the bank.
