… As AKSG Extends Curfew to tomorrow

By Saviour Ekpe

The Director General of the Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC), Pastor Anietie Ukpe has described the burning of the administrative office of the Corporation as an attack on the freedom of Information.

He made this assertion with Century Newsfront at the Corporation office today. The Director General who explained the extent of damages added that about four vehicles, administrative building were burnt down, noted that no live was lost during the attack.

Pastor Ukpe thanked Governor Emmanuel for his timely intervention as this, according Ukpe has abated further damages, he noted that the cost of damages is yet to be ascertained by experts, “I want to thank His Excellency, the governor for his prompt response, I also thank the security personnel and officers of the fire service who readily and promptly responded. The hoodlums came with machetes and axes, well armed. When they came, our gates were locked they destroyed the gates and came in and set the place on fire, obviously, this has nothing to do with ENDSARS because ENDSARS was about police being involved with illegalities, this is the work of criminals”.

It could be recalled that governor Udom Emmanuel imposed curfew in the state following “the violent manifestations of some persons masquerading as ENDSARS protesters trying to create chaos in Uyo” yesterday in the state capital with the main aim of saving the “lives and property of citizens and the restoration of Law and Order in our state”, the said curfew was meant to expire today, October 23 by noon.

In a related development, the state governor in a release signed by the Information Commissioner, Comrade Ini Ememobong and made available to Century Newsfront has extended the curfew three hours to the expiration of the former to Saturday October 24, 2020 by 7am. The release further explained that “due to developing situations being monitored by the state government and security agencies and the inevitable need to protect citizens and property, based on overriding the public interest”, the curfew has been extended …till 7am on Saturday, 24th October , 2020. This curfew has statewide effect”. The statement “advised law abiding citizens to remain at home, as security agencies have been briefed to strictly enforce this order”.
