The Chairman, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Mr. Anietie Samuel has been shot this morning in his house in Uyo.

Mr. Samuel, a Medical Laboratory Scientist, specialized in medical microbiology who is rounding off his tenure as COVID-19 caused the shifting of the election date to February, 2021 according to a source.

A source told Century Newsfront that the bandits invaded his residence in the early hours of today Thursday January 28, 2021 shot him with several rounds of bullets on his legs at a close range and was rushed to the Accidents and Emergency department of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital at about 4am, which according to our source, is responding to treatment.

Trying to unravel the possible cause of the attack on the union leader, another union leader in the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital alleged that, “the attack on Mr. Samuel may not be unconnected with the union money that has not been accounted for by the chairman”.

Speaking to the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Dr. EmemAbasi Bassey, he admitted that he has visited Mr. Samuel in the ward and that he is being attended to by professionals. The CMD noted the cause of the attack is not yet known but attributed it to the community, “he lives in the community”.

The Head of Department (HOD), Accidents and Emergency of the Hospital, Dr. Ibiok Usendia in his reaction was optimistic of quick recovery of Mr. Anietie Samuel explained that blood loosed due to the gun shot has been replaced through transfusion and that the victim is in a stable condition, “that is why you were able to talk with him”.

Responding to Century Newsfront, Mr. Anietie Samuel who was receiving treatment in the Accidents and Emergency department of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital thanked God for surviving such cruel incidence. While reacted on the allegation, Mr. Anietie Samuel who was imagining on which of the money, said that there was no money like that, “which money are you talking about? As long as I am concerned, there is no money like that”.

When contacting on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Odiko Macdon told Century Newsfront that he has not received the report and cannot comment on it.
