COVID-19 STIMULANTS: Abak Council Chairman, Wife dole out food Items for constituents

… As beneficiaries eulogize the gesture

In a bid to cushion the effect of Coronavirus stay-at-home effects on the people of Abak local government area, the Executive Chairman of Abak, Hon. (Barr.) Imoh Williams has distributed food items worth millions of naira to the people.

The exercise, which was done in the Chairman’s home town, Utu in Abak local government area as the compound was filled to capacity and the wife of the Executive Chairman, Obonganwan Unwana Imoh Williams personally and directly supervised the entire activity to ensure everyone goes home with food items today April 8, 2020.

Speaking to Century Newsfront, the Council Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Imoh Williams who was excited seeing people happily going home with their gifts said that it is always his pleasure to see people, especially the less privileged happy, “this is as a palliative measure to cushion the effect of the stay-at-home order of the state governor. I live in my village, I work from home, so I know the challenges the people are going through, that is why my wife and I came together to provide food to the poorest of the poor especially during this period. We have been doing it at different times, but this one was very important in view of the lockdown”, he noted.

The Council boss used the platform to thank the state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel on what he described as sincere steps taken by the governor to ensure that the global pandemic does not wipe out the people of the state given the death toll of developed nations of the world, “I want to thank the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for his prompt response and intervention by providing and equipping hospitals to contain the dreaded virus, COVID-19. This is a clear example of a visionary leader who has the people at heart”.

In their separate responses, some of the beneficiaries including Mrs. Ima Essien, a widow and petty trader; Mrs. Christiana Asuquo, a petty trader among others who were full of praises to the Executive Chairman said that the action of the Chairman was Divinely inspired as life has been unbearable to them and the gesture, would not be forgotten in a haste, “I am most grateful to God and the Chairman of Abak local government for remembering me. Since the demise of my husband, life has not been favourable to me but today, the chairman has given me this bag of rice and noodles, which will take me for not less than one month to take care of myself and family”. Another respondent who was too emotional said, I don’t know what to say but to tell the chairman, thank you for remembering me. Who am I, what have I done to merit this? she said.

It is on record that the Chairman has done similar gesture in the 11 wards in Abak including doling out gift items to the Royal fathers and presentation of hand sanitizers in order to checkmate the spread of COVID-19 in the area.
