The Divisional Police Officer in charge of ‘B’ Division in Ewet Housing Estate, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Akpan Daniel Okon has been penciled down for honour Friday December 4, 2020.
The award, which would be conferred by Institute of Peace Leadership in association with NISSI Foundation for Skills Acquisition and Reorientation, Lagos during the organisation’s 2020 National Peace Leadership Conference on the theme, Love, Peace and Tolerance: Key to Sustainable Development under the chairmanship of DIG Udom Ekpoudom (Rtd.) at De-Castle Hotel Annex in Ewet Housing Estate in Uyo.
In a letter signed by the organizers, Dr. Ofonime Emmanuel Bassey and made available to Century Newsfront praised CSP Akpan Daniel Okon as well as the contributions of ‘B’ Division of the Nigeria Police during the ENDSARS protest to peacefully quelled the crises. They noted that the essence of the award was to spur the awardees up for more conscientious service, “your nomination is based on your contribution towards the maintenance of peace and security before, during and after the ENDSARS protests within your jurisdiction in particular and Akwa Ibom State in general. And this award is our singular way of encouraging you and your organization in your efforts towards achieving peace and security as a condition sine qua non for sustainable development in line with the United Nations guidelines on Millennium Development Goals”.
Speaking on phone to Century Newsfront, the Chief Executive Officer of Institute of Peace Leadership, Dr. Ofonime Emmanuel Bassey noted that peace award is conferred only on qualified personalities and that it is meritorious award. He further explained that the choice of the ‘B’ Division DPO was borne out of the team of grassroots monitors’ recommendation and was verified by more competent assessors who are familiar with the environment.
CSP Akpan Daniel Okon has been variously awarded by local, national and international organizations as a result of his role and contributions to his immediate community and commitment to service including Certificate of Appreciation by United Nations, 2017; Letter of Appreciation by Commissioner of Police Minusma, Mali among others.
