The Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet has lauded the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel for charting a new and positive course in the sustainable development of Oruk Anam Local Government Area through massive infrastructure, saying this has given the people a new lease of life.

The Commissioner made the commendation during a solidarity visit to her by the Oruk Anam Women Leaders which took place at her office in Uyo on Monday. Mrs Etiebet who described the Governor as the symbol of everything good expressed delight that through his instrumentality, Oruk Anam LGA has become a hive of construction activities, bustling with infrastructural development.

She particularly noted the rehabilitated and fully equipped General Hospital, Ikot Okoro, the facilities at the Akwa Ibom State University Campus at Obio Akpa, Interministerial projects in Primary and Post-primary schools as well as delivery of good road network which have not only eased transportation and connected other communities in the area but have the potential of stimulating economic growth that would improve the fortunes of the people.

While tasking indigenes to guard the projects jealously against damage and vandalism, the Commissioner used the medium to advocate for active participation of the people in the voters’ Registration exercise to evade being disenfranchised in subsequent elections.

She stressed the need for all stakeholders to mobilize and effectively coordinate the people for the Enumeration Area Demarcation process that would take place in the area to ensure accuracy in the population rating of the area.

The Education Boss also advised the women to pay more attention to their children and wards so as to not to be misled to the wrong side of the law, citing poor parenting and neglect as major factors that contribute to delinquency in children.

Mrs Etiebet, a proud indigene of Oruk Anam LGA, appreciated the women for standing up for their worthy son-in-law, Governor Udom Emmanuel and wife, the first indigenous First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Martha Emmanuel during the 2019 gubernatorial race, urging them to continue with that positive energy even beyond 2023.

The head of the delegation and Peoples Democratic Party Women Leader, Oruk Anam chapter, Mrs Grace Ikpong in her remarks, stated that the essence of the visit was to express gratitude to Governor Udom Emmanuel for giving the people of Oruk Anam the first female Commissioner, a gesture she said has given them a sense of belonging.

Mrs Ikpong who was accompanied on the visit by all the women leaders drawn from the 16 wards of Oruk Anam, applauded the giant strides of the Governor in the State and Oruk Anam LGA in particular and pledged unalloyed loyalty and support to Governor Emmanuel and his wife, Martha while assuring of their readiness to follow where he leads. The event featured a rendition of solidarity songs in support of Governor Emmanuel and his wife, Martha.
