A topmost contestant for the Eket (Akwa Ibom South) Senatorial District seat in the National Assembly, Pastor Dr. Markfre Ekefre has attributed his emergence into politics as being inspired by Governor Udom Emmanuel’s performance.
Doctor Ekefre made this assertion at the Victor Attah International Airport after his arrival from Abuja. He noted that, though his late father was a Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and knows the nitty-gritty of politics but refused to venture in, maintained that only the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel whom he described as a five star performance that inspired him to venture.
Ekefre further explained that Governor Emmanuel developmental programmes across the state which have direct bearing on the needs of the people from opening of access roads to rural communities; building of industries that employ thousands of the teeming youths; creating enabling environments for investors to come into the state, “one of the major things that the governor has done that really touched me, though people may take it for granted is the regular and prompt payment of salary as and when due. This is a governor that feels what the people are feeling”.
Reacting to the warm reception accorded him by his Eket Senatorial District members and Executive of Ibom Development and Empowerment Assembly (IDEA) who also took to the streets of Uyo in appreciation of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s benevolence on the National President of the group, Pastor Dr. Markfre Ekefre, he noted that the people came out because of their faith in his capacity, especially the empowerment he uses the organization to train young men and women in the areas of tailoring, catering, fashion design, baking among others, “all these people we train, we also provided them with starter packs and most of them are now employers of labour. This is why I am contesting for Eket Senatorial District seat so that I can carry on more empowerment for the youth, women, men, widows, the less privileged and the aged. I am passionate about my people”, Dr. Ekefre explained.
Speaking to Century Newsfront, Dr. Enobong Uko, a medical practitioner and Deputy National Director, Health; Mrs. Mfon Etok, Assistant National Director, Programmes and Mrs. Treasure Uko all of Ibom Development and Empowerment Assembly (IDEA) noted that they are celebrating their national President on his aspiration to represent the people of Eket Senatorial District. They further explained that Dr. Ekefre is an empowerment personified as he has over the years, carried out series of empowerment by training Akwa Ibom people in various vocations, “we are witnesses of these things Dr, Ekefre is doing, that’s why we throw our support and queue behind his aspiration because if he is there at the national assembly, he will be able to reach out to more people. Dr. Ekefre is not a selfish man, he is very liberal, considerate, he puts himself in the condition and plight of the people above all, Dr. Ekefre is a man of the people”.
They expressed the hope that given his pedigree and antecedents, coupled with his religious background and exposure, Dr. Ekefre will make a good representation. They maintained that the PDP zoning of the senate favours Dr. Ekefre as the party zones it to his local government area, “now that he has purchased the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senate nomination and expression of interest form for Eket (Akwa Ibom South) Senatorial District, the race has begun in earnest and we are solidly behind him”.
The event featured street match led by brass band, goodwill messages and further endorsement of Pastor Dr. Markfre Ekefre for Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent Eket (Akwa Ibom South) Senatorial District.
