One of the leading contenders for the Eket (Akwa Ibom South) Senatorial District race, Pastor (Dr.) Markfre Ekefre has withdrawn from the race and declared total support for Barr. Ekong Sampson.
Dr. Ekefre made this proclamation yesterday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital when he played host to media professionals. He noted that the decision to withdraw was borne out of the directive of the governor through the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, “the decision to quit the race though is very painful in view of the amount of money I sunk in, I spent over N48m after the purchase of the form, filled and submitted, was cleared to stand the election, I did consult with delegates and stakeholders and went through the entire gamut of electioneering process. I respect and obey the governor, since he asked me to quit the race; I have no option but to obey his views as the leader of our party in the state”.
Acknowledging the supremacy of the party, Dr. Ekefre observed that as a loyal party man, and for the interest of peace, he took the painful decision, “aside the directive of the governor, I want peace to reign in my party, the PDP; my senatorial and my local government area. We all know that party is supreme, and I want to align with that philosophy just for peace to reign”.
“I use this platform to call on all my supporters to key into the governor’s directive and support Barr. Ekong Sampson and never detarred with our unalloyed commitment of supporting Pastor Umo Eno for the Hilltop Mansion come 2023”, Ekkefre noted.
Dr. Ekefre also urged the people to support His mentor Governor Udom Emmanuel to emerge as the next president of the federal Republic of Nigeria according to him the governor has all its takes to salvage and redeem Nigeria from the present economic and security quackmire and install peace and prosperity in the country.
