The Chairman of Akwa Ibom House of Assembly committee on Finance and Appropriation, Rt. Hon. Usoroh Akpanusoh says he has provided measures to tackle the, the Gully Erosion menace in Esit Eket, which has so far gulped uncountable lives and properties.
Akpanusoh, who represent Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency in the sixth assembly, while speaking to newsmen in his office noted that, he was on the verge of ensuring that, the contract cash earlier awarded by the state government on the rehabilitation of the affected gully erosion areas was released.
“While delving into the Gully Erosion menace in my constituent, I realized that even the last administration has awarded a contract to the whooping sum of 1billion, 254 Million Naira, 67 naira, 18 kobo. I also realized that, they have prepared IPC for the mobilization of that contract to the tune of N836,331,957,46. Unfortunately, the government refused to release the money. That therefore means that government saw ahead of the danger in that gully area and had gone ahead to award contract, thus, I will via a motion, urge the state government to release money to the contractors, so that they can go to the site.” The Lawmaker disclosed.
The Lawmaker said he has provided visible avenues to impact positively on the lives of his constituents within his 100 days in office, noting that, his benevolence will cut across youths, women and elders.
He disclosed that, he has already provided free transport bus services, small scale businesses adding that, he will support the effort of professional motorcycles in the constituency, within his 100 days in office.
“The free bus services are on already. We bring people from the constituency who has one or more engagements in Uyo, drop them here, then, take them back home, free-of-charge. We have designated phone numbers that members of my constituents can call and book for the bus. “We also intend to engage our constituency in training programmes. For a start, we will partner with MTN Nigeria to ensuring that 300 people are trained on small scale business. Such business will comprise of selling or recharge card and we are going to give them 100,000 Naira to facilitate their businesses.
“We will train women on Catering Programmes, assist APCOMA with motorcycles. These are just some of the little programmes we intend to doll out as part of our 100 days celebration in office” The Lawmaker maintained. It will be recalled that, the lawmaker had within 30 days in office held a constituency briefing, where problems of the constituency were diagnosed.
