Etim Ekpo Chairman swears-​in Secretary of Council

charges to preach the gospel of Gov. Udom Emmanuel

… as Secretary promises an all-inclusive government

The Executive Chairman of Etim Ekpo Local Government Council, Hon. Udeme Eduo has sworn-in the newly appointed Secretary of Council, Barr. Sunday Ukanga with a charge to work for the realization of the mandate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and ensuring that Etim Ekpo goes back to her former glory by cooperating with all stakeholders.

The Chairman during the brief ceremony described Barr. Ukanga as a thorough-bred unit commander of the Etim Ekpo whose appointment is well deserved, adding that the appointment is a demonstration of the task of repositioning the local government area. Hon. Eduo expressed happiness over the appointment of Ukanga as council secretary who will help in engineering the politics of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area and that of the State.

He stressed that the council under his watch will not leave office un-celebrated. While urging the newly sworn in Council Secretary to justify the trust reposed in him by the stakeholders and the State governor. He emphasized that all position in Local Government Area is done best on zoning, seniority and brotherhood. He described the appointment of Ukanga as a reflection of Etim Ekpo oneness and hardwork.

Responding, Barr. Sunday Ukanga thanked the Governor, the Chairman, the Stakeholders for finding him worthy to occupy such an exalted position in the Etim Ekpo Local Government Council. The Secretary to Council said he would not allow his personal ambition to override the interest of the Council, adding that he would serve with diligence, sincerity, loyalty and steadfastness to achieve better results. While calling for cooperation from Etim Ekpo people, Ukanga promised to leave an indelible mark before he leaves office. He also urged the new legislators and others to support the council chairman to move the local government forward.

Speaking to newsmen soon after the ceremony, the Councilor representing Etim Ekpo Ward 1, Hon. Enobong Sunday John eulogized the sterling qualities of Barr. Ukanga as a social mixer, political calculator of Etim Ekpo,  a team player who as a former State officer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) worked towards the emergence of Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2015. Hon. Enobong Sunday John maintained that with Barr. Ukanga as Council Secretary of Etim Ekpo, the Council Chairman can go and sleep as the Secretary is a round peg in a round hole.

Barr. Sunday Ukanga is a quintessential leader. Born in the mid 60s, hails from Utu Ikot Eboro village in Etim Ekpo local government area of Akwa Ibom State. Had his First School Leaving Certificate in 1976 and proceeded to Kenneth Commercial & Technical College, Diobu in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. As a result of his quest for knowledge, advancement and growth academically, Barr. Ukanga sought for and gained admission into the prestigious Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu still in Rivers State and bagged his LLB Degree in Law in 2003 and in 2004, he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Bwari in Abuja for his Bachelor of Law (BL) and was called to Bar in 2005.

The newly sworn-in Council Chief Scribe cuts his teeth in law practice at M. A. Onyezenowu & Associates in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and thereby moved to Enoidem & Associates, Uyo in Akwa Ibom State. Barr. Ukanga is however, not a political neophyte as he has been a member of the State Working Committee (STW) as well as State Auditor of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State from 2012 to 2016; Legal Adviser, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Etim Ekpo local government area; State Legal Adviser, Civil Rule Advancement Works Organisation of Nigeria (CROWN); State Legal Adviser, Akwa Alliance Forum (AAF), Akwa Ibom State; Legal Adviser, Ati Annang, Etim Ekpo Chapter (a renown socio-cultural and political group); Patron, National Association of Etim Ekpo Students; member, Etim Ekpo PDP Elders’ Forum; member, Intelligence sub-Committee, Godswill Akpabio Campaign Committee; International President, Etim Ekpo Reformers Forum among many others. Barr. Sunday Ukanga,  a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, loves reading, travelling and analyzing topical issues. Married with four (4) children.
