EXXONMOBIL Stalled Community Action After Eseme Eyiboh’s Exit From National Assembly

…It Is Possible To Revive It – Eseme Eyiboh

By Daniel Edon

It has been revealed that ExxonMobil stalled some of her critical Community Actions that Eseme Eyiboh initiated when they discovered that the Member that represented the people of Eket, Onna, Esit Eket and Ibeno Federal Constituency, couldn’t return to the Green Chambers for a second term.

When Eseme Eyiboh got information that Exxonmobil, had received compensation, from her Insurance company, on the burnt Pegagus club, he, Eyiboh quickly engaged the IOC through legislative action in the National Assembly, to rebuild the Mobil Pegasus Club which served as community enterprise and development hub. They stalemated further actions at the unfortunate exit of Eseme Eyiboh at the House of Representatives.

According to a letter sent to the Member Of Parliament in 2008, ExxonMobil expressed interest to further engaged the Host Communities at the instance of the Federal House Member alongside stakeholders from the four host Communities; on: 1. Memorandum of Understanding MOU 2. Reconstruction of the Pegasus Club House 3. Refuse and Waste Management.

It is quite unfortunate that since the exit of MP Eseme Eyiboh, no other MP after him was/is able to engage ExxonMobil on those salient subject matters. And the IOC has been silent on the matter.

Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly during the days of Onofiok Luke as Speaker, tried all that they could to get Exxonmobil to review her MOU with the host Communities but to no avail. On the reconstruction of the burnt Pegasus Club House, in Eket, Ekid People Union, EPU, had sent missives upon missives to the IOC but the company still remains adamant.

In our local parlance, it said that “Ekóng Ayigh Awóghó isigh”, meaning that there are certain masquerades that are ugliest, dreadful and fearful. That is Rt. Hon. Eseme Eyiboh. He is feared and respected because he knows every extant laws and operational guidelines of IOCs in Nigeria and at International level.

Eyiboh is the person who has the wherewithal, the capacity and connection to further engage Exxonmobil on issues raised. He would simply refer the IOC to the letter they sent to him in 2008, and the issue would be brought to floor of House under “Matter Of Urgent Public Importance”. The rest is imagination. Eseme Eyiboh is the current APC mandate holder/Candidate for Eket Federal House of Representatives election come 2023.
