Baring any moment, the National Working Committee of National Council of Women Society (NCWS) will set up a probe panel to look inward into the saga rocking its  Akwa Ibom State Chapter, which led to the unlawful imposition of one Mrs. Mfon Udokpo as the State President devoid of due process.

Our source at the National Secretariat of the body, who confided with this reporter, shortly after an enlarged meeting of the group, held yesterday in Abuja, said the organization frowned at indispensable use of its state chapter by the Women Affairs Commissioner, Mrs. Glory Edet as an annex of a Peoples Democratic Party insisting that, the group was non partisan.

Speaking further, the source said that, the crisis rocking the society started when one Mrs. Geraldine Ita Etuk, was chosen to represent the state at the National Level, but the commissioner, who may have been afraid of Geraldine’s glowing antecedence, accused her of being a stakeholder of All Progressive Congress, and as such warned the State President, Mrs. Nkwo to jettison her ambition.

“Not satisfied with the gimmicks, the stoic Geraldine according to what we have gathered, bought form via Non Governmental Organization, which is in tandem with the constitutional requirement of our organization, gave the form to her President, Mrs Nkwo for endorsement, which the latter did and that incident marked the beginning of the saga of NCWS in Akwa Ibom State.” the National Officer revealed.

The National Officer kicked against the unlawful ousting of the bona fide president, Mrs. Mmenyene George Nkwo noting that, NCWS is not a Banana Republic, as such the law must be duly followed.

“In NCWS, when there is nagging issues in any state, we the National has to set up a Committee to look inward with a view of proffering lasting solutions. In Akwa Ibom, nothing as such took place. That is why, when we came for National Convention, we recognized Mrs. Mmenyene Nkwo as the president and we stood by that. We are aware of communique and press releases issued on tabloids. We are about to send a panel to look inward. If the Commissioner for Women Affairs is found wanting I want to assure you that we will not leave any stone unturned. “We have various petitions indicting the commissioner. We are aware of the remote and immediate causes of the crisis, thus, a committee will be looked into.”She stressed.

In a telephone conversation, the State President as recognized by the National body, Mrs. Mmenyene Nkwo said it was the duty of the National secretariat of the body to handle such cases of the organization, not the media and technically refused commenting further.

However, Mrs. Imaobong Edem, who identified herself as member of Ibesikpo chapter of NCWS claimed that, the NCWS tussle was politically motivated. She stressed that, the Women Affairs commissioner, Mrs. Glory Edet wants all the women intact till 2019 as the choice of Geraldine Etuk  will jettison the second term ambition of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

“My Commissioner decided to be funny. She is said to have incited some gullible women to embark on this irrelevant fight. She wants to remain in power till 2019 with all the women intact so that she can handover them to PDP. We have someone by name Mrs. Geraldine Etuk, who supposed to be representing us at the National. But the commissioner never wanted her as such, she labelled Etuk as APC Woman so that she will lose favour and attention from the governor’s wife. That is the crux of the matter, it is politically induced” she whispered.

Mrs. Helen Inyang, another financial member of the group from Itu Local Government Area urged the wife of the governor not to allow the women affairs commissioner mislead her noting that, there was lasting peace in the society before the emergence of Dr. Glory Edet. At press time, all efforts to reach the commissioner proved abortive as her mobile lines were migrated to voice mail.
