First Class Students of Urue Ofong /Oruko to Get Scholarship Awards

Members of the National Association of Urue Offong/Oruko Students, University of Uyo Chapter, have been charged to make excellence, quality and integrity their watch words.
The Commissioner for Economic Development, Dr. Emmanuel Onwioduokit gave the charge yesterday while receiving the Executive members of the Association in his office. Dr. Onwioduokit who urged the students to give their best to attain academic excellence, promised to give scholarship awards to any first class student from the area and also support the indigent ones.
The Commissioner informed the student that he was a strong believer in excellence and hard work and therefore admonished them to build their academic foundation on excellence and integrity so as to be found worthy in learning and character. Dr. Onwioduokit said he will continue to speak for them on any academic challenges they may face, but however advised them to eschew all forms of examination malpractices. He expressed delight in the students’ visit, stating that it would be a thing of joy to find educated men and women from the area to hand over the mantle of leadership to in the future.
Speaking on behalf of the Association, the President of the Association, who is a four hundred level student of Engineering in the University of Uyo, Mr. Bassey Brian Edem congratulated Dr. Emmanuel Onwioduokit on his appointment to the State Executive Council as Honorable Commissioner and thanked him for receiving them despite the short notice. He said they were in his office to intimate him of the activities and programmes of the association and also solicit support for the upcoming seminar to be organized by the association with the theme; “Shun Cultism and Examination Malpractice”. He mentioned lack of scholarship grants for students from Urue Offong Oruko as the major challenge faced by the association and appealed to highly placed citizens from the area to support them in order to excel in their academic endeavors.
On the team were the Vice President, Victor Okwong, Secretary, Christopher Amba, the Financial Secretary, Debora Nkereuwem, Treasurer, Idorenyin Onwineng, the Protocol, Henshaw Edet, Edmund Bassey, member and Clement Ayabia.
