A Calabar-based legal luminary, Barr Emman Eyo of AB Cobham & Associates has vowed to ensure the Senator representing Eket Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom state, Senator Nelson Effiong, is dragged to court over a case of an alleged threat to life and obtaining money through false pretence from one Madam Nsedu Onyile, based in the United States of America .
Eyo, who is the Counsel Onyile, said Sen Effiong borrowed 10,000 US Dollars from his client to fund election campaign in 2015 and that instead of paying the said the amount, the Senator resorted to threatening his client’s life.
He said he had petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, demanding the arrest of Senator Effiong over the matter. The Police boss, he disclosed, subsequently directed investigation into the petition through the Force Headquarters after which the Oron born Senator, who defected from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) few months ago, was arrested.
According to him, before the arrest, Effiong had ignored several invitations but was subsequently picked up and thereafter released on bail based on self recognition after he volunteered a statement at the Area 10 Police Formation in the Federal Capital, Abuja.
Madam Nsedu Onyile is alleging that upon demanding for refund of her money three years after the Senator was elected, Effiong instead threatened her life through an e-mail and counter claiming that the money in contention was a donation to aid his electoral fortune, adding that the Senator threatened to deal with her for daring to seek refund of her money.
Senator Effiong was quoted to have, in an email to the lady, said, “you will tell all those you have mentioned if I had ever begged you for a dime to do my election until you voluntarily called me and said you want to make a donation.
“You will show the whole world if I got loan from you, the paper I signed and the agreement we entered into. Just try any nonsense…are you going to deny that I am your boyfriend…I will tell the whole world you are doing this nonsense because I told you I don’t want you again.. I know how and where to get you when you come. We will know who owns the land. There will be no hiding place for you…just try any nonsense and I will handle you the way you can’t imagine”.
The legal Counsel to the lady further disclosed that the complainant is expected soon in the country to give her oral evidence to the Police before the matter is charged to a court of competent jurisdiction.
