Gov. Emmanuel Lauds US Govt. On Zero Malaria Project

The Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has lauded the American Government on its efforts to eradicate malaria in Africa by 2030.

The commendation was made when a team from the Management Sciences for Health, an NGO in the United States of America established to build stronger health system and greater health impact, paid a courtesy visit to him at Government House, Uyo, on Tuesday.

Governor Emmanuel, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo described Malaria as a scourge that has contributed in no small measure to the death of many in the Continent. He said, that his administration was committed to ensuring the improvement of the health status of the citizens,  adding that the high premium placed on the health and wellness of his people is the reason his government has invested huge resources in the health sector.

He noted that America’s commitment to eradicating Malaria in the country will further strengthen the more than three decades relationship that has existed between Nigeria and the US.

Governor Emmanuel commended the President of the Management Sciences for Health and her team for the commitment to the course of eradicating Malaria and also thanked MSH for the choice of Akwa Ibom state as a flagship State in Nigeria.

Speaking earlier, The President Management Sciences for health, Dr. Marian Wentworth said the team was on a visit using the state as the flagship for the pursuance of Zero Malaria by 2030. Dr. Wentworth who said her group needs to work in synergy with the state Government for the purpose to be realised, also added that all hands must be on deck to achieve the said goal.

She congratulated the state for its tremendous progress and development in the health sector and promised the commitment of America to bettering the health status of the citizens of the state, adding that Akwa Ibom has made a lot of impact.
