The Principal Security Officer (PSO) to Governor Seriake Henry Dickson of Bayelsa State, Mr. Ebi Okoyen (Chief Superintendent of Police) 5-aside football tournament held in his home town has ended in a grand style with College Gede Academy coming out victorious with the 1st prize of One Hundred and Fifty Naira (N150.000.00).
CSP Ebi Okoyen who expressed pleasure witnessing the maiden edition of his tournament said, Peretorugbene unity cup would be held annually with more games and prizes to be won. Other prizes won are 1st runner up rejoiced home with Hundred Thousand Naira(100.000) , 2nd runner up sang praises to God with the sum of Fifty Thousand Naira and other consolation prizes .
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the tournament, Mr. Ebi explained that the essence was to foster unity in the community and promote peace, hence unity remains their anchor hold, “The greatest weapon with which to fight crime was to engage the youths in human and capital development through which they would become useful to the society in future”, he averred.
He however enjoined the youths of the community to shun violence, crime and the use of illicit drugs which is inimical to their wellbeing and growth in the society. Buttressing his point, the Principal Security Officer to the Governor called on the youths to gear their youthful energy towards acquisition of entrepreneurial skills to be employers of labour and to further increase their pursuit for formal education.
Mr. Ebi who also called on leadership of the community to always use their networks to attract more development to the community rather than milking from the community funds, also noted that they should refrain from using the loyalty of the youths to their advantage negatively by encouraging them to indulge in carrying of arms during and after elections.
The Peretorugbene youth leadership while extolling the sponsor of the tournament for his display of love for his community, noted that Mr. Ebi Okoyen (CSP) has used his network to enroll so many youths of the community into various military, Para-military, public service and payment of educational fees to Indigenes of Peretorugbene community.
