A socio-political organization in the State, Udom Grass-roots Movement (UGM) is set to train no fewer than five thousand youths in skills acquisition.
The training which is in partnership with an international development group, Sunrise Development International Initiatives (SDII) as well as Akwa Ibom state government under the Ministry of Finance is geared towards eradicating poverty, creating sustainable developments through skills acquisition as well as giving hope to the youth of the area.
In an interactive session with newsmen in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, the initiator of the programme, Comrade Ekpemerong Honesty disclosed that the training programme will last for six (6) weeks in basic entrepreneurial skills and brand development packaging such as: catering, interior/exterior decoration and event management, liquid soap making, izal, insecticide, bleach, paint production, bead & hat making, fashion & designing and makeup/saloon services- braiding-nail fixing-eye lashes. Others include fabrication & welding, plumbing, photography & video graphy, health safety & environmental management (SHE), general driving training, computer appreciation & basic management, fishing farming, maintenance & repair of diesel injector pump and nozzle among others.
Mr Honesty noted that the training centre would be at Itu local government council secretariat, Mbak Atai Itam in two sessions, morning and evening from Monday to Friday.
He urged intending participants to pick the training application form at Itu local government secretariat with the sum of two hundred Naira (N200) per participant.
He used the medium to call on village heads and community leaders to sensitize their subjects to take advantage of the programme as it has the capacity to changing their lives for the better and urged the unemployed youths to take advantage of the programme by availing themselves in the opportunity.
